Hi....new to the forum so be gentle.

Recently bought a 20V Turbo Plus and gradually fixing/upgrading a few things including the headunit and speakers. I've got a Sony XAV-AX8050D installed and put in Alpine S-S65C component speakers however I'm not sure the tweeters are working as they should. I removed the existing tweeters leaving the old speaker cable as the new tweeters run from a cable that goes to the new door speakers, ideally I would remove the old tweeter cable but not sure where it splits from the cable that goes to the door speakers. Is this an issue....I think the crossover was on the original tweeters and therefore the cable I've left is doing nothing?

Appreciate any help....couldn't find advise on this elsewhere.

I don't think anyone knows where the join is. I rewired the whole lot.

You could disconnect all the other speakers and check how the tweeters sound maybe?

Thanks….seems that is the case. How did you get the speaker cable past the steering column to the centre console?

Also did you remove the old cable by pulling through from behind the radio?

I should have gone up and behind the clocks then back down, but I just went under the steering column and ziptied all the cables together. It ain't pretty, but I don't see out of my knees so it's no issue for me.

I left all the old cable in place and ran new cables from an amp in the boot.

If you don't mind lying in a contorted position for a while you can feed the cable down behind the carpet at the back of the foot pedals. It helps if you pull the door seal away slightly at the level of the bonnet release handle, you'll get started behind the carpet there.

Spent last Friday doing something similar with DAB aerial and hands free mic install….upside down in a footwell is not my best look.

Lots of info on the net about different types of cables and sizes. If you're just running speakers off the headunit then you won't need anything fancy, but a good quality cable from a trusted supplier can't be bad, and they're not too expensive either.

I think you can remove old cables and insert new to the existing plug with a special tool or possibly buy a blank plug to set new cables into.

Or, you could go down the Morrison tried and tested route of cutting the cables 2 inches off the plug and connecting new cables to the old. Not ideal.

If replacing the tweeter you need a crossover to limit the bass going to the tweeters. The original ones had a capacitor to do this. If you don't do it then the tweeters will either blow or sound horrible!

Thanks Kevin….bought some new speaker cable and going to wire up the fronts so the tweeters are correctly taking their feed from the main door speaker as per the manufacture instructions. Now to work out how to connect new speaker wire to radio wiring loom!

I took this exact approach, reran new cables from an amp in the boot, could also run from the back of the headunit.
