Anyone else been watching events at Goodwood? The crazy McMurty Speirling is built just down the road from us in Gloucestershire.
Dual, powered fans produce downforce not seen since Gordon Murray's heyday and there's 1000bhp in a car not much bigger than a VW Up!

Not sure what the range is, mind...

Just seen it beat the record, I love the fact that a little company from Britain has built something that has beaten a record set by a VW with all the resources they have. Just a shame the McMurty is electric...

I was impressed at how well the ICE cars held their own.
Why is it a shame the McMurtry is electric?
It's phenomenal design and engineering and frankly, if there was ever a form of motorsport perfectly suited to EVs, it's hill climbing.

I'm not a fan of battery cars, it isn't the right technology long term and they are definitely not as environmentally friendly as many try to portray them.

EVs may be suited to hillclimbs but I'm not aware of a venue which has charging facilty, and pretty much none of them are able to comply with the Motorsport UK requirement to have a tanker with 30000 litres of water on hand in case of fire - logistically and financially it makes them prohibitive as that is somewhat different to having water and foam bottles on each corner.

I agree and also do not like electric cars for the same reasons.

I do, however, love the tech and this car is amazing. The video is something else. One hell of an achievement from a small UK company.

It was amazing to watch, the technology is fantastic and the speed other worldly. I have massive respect for what has been done and achieved. I can't help feeling how good it could have sounded as well as looked with an internal combustion engine - but I do know what that would mean in terms of size and power implications - might not have been heavier though..
