Greetings.
I wanted to ask if anyone had modified the air temperature sensor.
as described in this thread :
(Performance part list)
"Air temperature sensor (home made): £35+ for parts".
Could someone explain to me what this change consists of?
Thank you.

If you have the standard Bosch ECU (regardless of the chip fitted) there's absolutely no reason to mess with the intake air temp sensor.

If you have some custom stand alone ECU then maybe a different sensor that better matches it would be needed.

I've never heard of changing the air temp sensor as any kind of performance mod though, other than maybe those "ebay resistor mods" that used to be a thing, where the sensor output is modified to make the ECU think the intake air is hotter or colder to fool the ECU into running constantly a bit rich or lean. But surely no one would be seriously considering doing that these days? smile

yes, I read about these resistors too.
but I wanted to hear your opinion.
another appropriate question, what are the symptoms of a defective air temperature sensor?
Thank you

I have seen that mentioned on French forums when talking about running E85 without a remap; fooling the ECU to add more fuel by making it 'think' the engine is cold. Dreadful idea.

yes, I was just curious about the wording in the post.
it cannot even be defined as tuning, but simply anticipate the end of an engine.
would you know what the symptoms are of this sensor if faulty?
Would it be appropriate to replace it after so many years?
with the original OEM number you get 2 different types of sensor,
a short one with holes and a long one without holes,
the drawing for Fiat shows the long one, any ideas?
Thank you

I use MES. It gives you air and water temp readings.

Symptoms as GrahamL describes - rich or lean running, however failure normally results in rich. You can confirm if it is causing an issue using the fuel trims, if they are excessively negative you are running rich, positive running poor.

I think by MES you mean multiecuscan?
Yes, I have it too and have used it several times with success.
well it's time to plug it back in and see how things go.
there will definitely be many errors after doing all the previous works. Thanks, I'll keep you posted.

In my experience these sensors can go out but some of the replacements available that claim to be for the Coupe are absolutely miles out of range. May be better to replace with genuine known good second hand. Genuine ones are black plastic, replacements are brass bodied with a plastic connector.

this should be right, as in the fiat eper drawing.
I will wait for the MES results and share them with you.
Thank you.

well,
I managed to carry out a diagnosis,
no errors stored.

these are real-time parameters.
could you help me decipher them? thin/rich...if I'm in a decent state? thank you all.
(in the garage there was a temperature of around 27 degrees)
