The coop remains tucked up and garaged, safe from the worst of the salt and the flood water around here.

Fooled over the weekend by sights of snowdrops and a hint of fresh green on the hedges, I fired up the coupe and just went through some basic checks. She fired first time and all seems good- tyres still over pressured, all liquids at the correct (full) levels.

Of course- just doing that means this week has seen temperatures dive and yet more flood water...so she is back safely in the garage sitting out the weather bidding her time.

Came across this video- not sure I would have broken off some of the parts he did....but hope it inspires some late winter/early spring motivation out there for other coupe owners.

Its certainly made me think that its time to start finalising any needed winter maintenance - and also time to start setting out plans for where the Coupe is going to travel to this year....I'm tempted by an eu excursion in an effort to find some sun and freedom....but not sure about the whole car regs/eu visas now needed.

Maybe a UK adventure is more likely....time to plan.

Hope this finds you all well and your cars in fine fettle!

Regards

MM

Hi MM,
I’m in a similar situation, where I have a few things to do before the year ahead……

I think I’m going to buy a quaife diff, then fit some GTA147 subframe struts

Then I need to do the cambelt job

Change the oils in both engine and gearbox

The handbrake cable is sticking on one side

And finally I need to buy some front Eiffel towers off Joe and weld them in

I just need a weekend of glorious weather to get me outside

Cheers Jamie

My year started by dropping off BumbleBee's bonnet to my trusted paintshop on 6th Jan, thinking that being the beginning of a week away would allow tangible progress by mid-month.

Not so - these lads are admirably attuned to the "replace rust/metal with metal" ethos, not plunging into the filler-tub until necessary. Already having fashioned a couple of nice wheel-arches last year they have set about the bonnet with its infamous inaccessibility.

Sure enough the massive wedge of filler along the front was eventually extracted, leaving the ragged remains of the complex front lip; what remained of the inner leaf was completely refabricated and welded into place after some study of the shape and curvature of our handily-placed project car whose bonnet I was able to display to them first-hand. All this after some generous rust-proofing was painted in.

A couple of days ago - yes they dot in-and-out of several jobs concurrently - the entire lip had been welded back into place/shape, leaving a small access-hole each end for a long straw to shoot in some Dinitrol or equivalent - a luxury that the original design didn't allow seemingly.

In addition, having advised that all the bonnet paintwork was suspect and that they'd have to strip it down fully before repainting, more corrosion holes were revealed along the sides - usual suspect places which are impossible to get at.

That's 5 weeks now and I can see another two down the line. It will have all its metal restored and will likely last long enough to see me out laugh Another nice thing will be the possibility of refitting that black grip-strip along the inner edge - couldn't do that before for the thickness of the filler. That same wadge was so generously applied that it would hit the corner of the foglight upon closing, inducing a 2" crack rolleyes

Allow for a further week getting all the dust cleaned out and a March outing beckons! At least though it's been out of the cold, wet and salt since the New Year and it's kept the mileage off, at 178k it's deserved some lighter use especially after the Turin trip last June smile

Thinking ahead? Maybe have a rethink about the car-cover....after me carefully renewing mine to avoid u/v damage to light lenses, general dirt and interior fade my paint-shop boys say they are the worst things for paintwork!

Definitely had enough of the cold, damp weather and itching to get my car out of the garage. Top of my list is checking that the radiator fans work and then I’ll hopefully start to use it as a daily driver as the weather improves and that way I can become more familiar with the car’s wants and needs.
