Good afternoon all,

I am currently researching replacement front door speakers. As I have read on this forum the current front door speakers are woofers, with tweeters installed separately under grills on the left and right of the top of the dash.

I had been considering as replacements the ALPINE SPG-17C2, but these have a tweeter built in. Approx £60 from https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-alpine-car-audio-systems-spg-17c2_p-23888.htm

I have also seen favourable mentions of the Alpine SPG-17CS component speaker. £90 from https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-alpine-car-audio-systems-spg-17cs_p-23886.htm

I saw a thread where a chap called KevinW installed just the woofers of the SPG-17CS, but what about the tweeters and crossovers. It seems a waste to spend £90 for the 17CS and not use the tweeters or crossovers.

I have not yet checked the condition of my dash tweeters, BUT is there somewhere I'm able to buy JUST the woofers of the 17CS set?

Thanks all,
Paul

I bought this speaker set with separate tweeters and crossover. The door speakers are an excellent fit with great bass. The grills also fit very well and look much better than the standard ones. The tweeters need to be custom fit - I widened the fitment hole by melting the plastic with a hot poker just wide enough to push them in then glued them. Not too difficult. You definitely need the supplied crossover for the tweeters to prevent bass signal effecting them. I did not bother wiring the door speakers to the crossover - too much bother and would not do much as they won't be damaged. Fitted the supplied crossovers behind the dash side panels that are revealed by opening the doors. The result is very good indeed (better than most new car setups).

Hi, Kevin, do you have pics of the speakers and crossover installed? Thanks!
