Hi all,

My name's Andy and I've been a fan of the Fiat Coupe ever since my friend's mum had one back in the late 1990s when I was at school.

Having had a few near misses with buying Coupes in the past, bid on a yellow Fiat Coupe race car last year which had previously campaigned in the CSCC championship around 15 years ago. I actually didn't win the car at that time, but fast forward a few months and the car was up for sale again as the unfortunate person that was successful at the auction had the timing belt let go and he wasn't in a position to fix it. Given I was planning on going racing myself, and I've always loved the Coupes, I thought it was a good opportunity for me.

The car's been with AllItalia in Wrexham for the past few months getting (basically) a new engine, and a lot of other work to revive the car which much have sat around for a number of years.

I'm a novice racer myself, as I've not financially been in a position before to go racing, but I've signed up to compete in the Alfa Intermarque Championship modified class for 2026 - very much excited about that.

Not sure if any of the previous owners have been on the forum, but happy to share more of the car specs if people are interested. I don't seem to have permission to post photos at this time (maybe because I'm a new user).

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy and welcome to the Club and forum. smile Your membership will be processed shortly now that payment has been received.

Do keep us updated regarding your coupé adventures and fettling. If your are taking it on track there is a dedicated forum where you can post.

I have a feeling that one of our longest-serving Club members might have worked at AllItalia in the past; I don't suppose you can remember the colour of your friend's mum's coupé?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the welcome.

My friend's mum's car was a Scott's Green Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo. Last seen (by me) in Canterbury around 1998 smile

Will post in the track forum once I get the car back. I've not actually driven it myself yet but have it booked in for a Trackday at Oulton Park in 10 days, ahead of the first race meet at Snetterton at the end of April.

Thanks
Andy

Ed Robinson has tempted me several times to participate in the Alfa Intermarque Championship with my track cars but I've never had the time of disposable funds so it'll be great to finally see a Coupe on the line up, best of luck thumb

Thanks guys.

I now seem to have been granted permission for photos, so here’s a few shows of the car.

Cheers
Andy

Had a shakedown at Oulton Park. Low boost and low revs but everything went smoothly. Manage to get 100 miles on the new engine.

Car drove well thanks. Turned in where I wanted, stopped well too.

The boost was really restricted and I tried not to rev above 4K rpm, so the speeds were all a little underwhelming. I couldn’t actually pass a Celica on the straights.

All good though, you cant rush these things.

Found a friend on arrival too smile

Hi all,

After missing the first round due to issues with sourcing replacement discs for my non-standard brakes, I finally went racing for the first time this weekend and Donington.

Very steep learning curve, especially as I’ve had hardly any time in the car.

Ended up with a DNF in the first race as I went into the gravel which unfortunately knocked a rear brake pipe off.

Second race I was much more cautious and built up the speed a bit more, which allowed my to take my time and focus on finishing.

Here’s a POV from my first race start and lap of racing ever. Annoyingly in the video I picked 5th rather than 3rd going up the hill which killed the pace and let a couple of people through.

https://youtu.be/ulfjhO5gOCkf?si=SGfCA8NHZ1LTHtzB

Car was quite noisy as a CV boot had come off on the out lap so the there was little/no grease in the drive shaft.

I’m starting to get more comfortable with the car, but still need to get to grips with the brakes especially. I also need to get it mapped properly as there is literally no power below 4K rpm, and only comes on fully above 4.5k. Need to sacrifice some top end to have a wider power band.

Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it.

Take every race as a learning experience and enjoy it.

I believe it is a Turbo Technics T34 turbo... the previous owner installed it.

Change the turbo. T34 is a common turbo for the Cosworth, not ball bearing and laggy as anything (as you are finding out).

Any recommendations for a replacement? Thanks

Garrett GT28RS roller bearing turbo, would be a good choice on a non forged engine

You’ll have to adapt the down pipe due to flange fitment, probably worth fitting different injectors. I have Vauxhall VXR injectors in mine, and get it fleamapped by Leighton Wilson down at castle Combe

You’ll then have a car with a much better power and torque curve

Cheers Jamie
