Apart from the political-type that's been generated recently some of you will be right in the middle of torrid temperatures very shortly.

How will this affect your daily life? Schools/work closed? Melted tarmac/overheating engine?

Let us know, with photos if possible - and stay safe!

Usual stuff for me is dodge the sun like a vampire, then emerge about 7pm onwards when temperatures drop a little

Cheers Jamie

I work for a small family run Aggregates supply company where we also supply crushed concrete and recycle soils. The business has been going for in one form or another for 60 years or so. Unfortunately houses have been and continue to be built around us so we have keep on top of dust control which is a nightmare as the water dries very quickly. So that is pretty much what I'll be doing this week. On a positive note the constant cold showers are very refreshing. Fingers crossed I have no mechanical breakdowns on the various items of plant although our road sweeper doesn't like the heat so I may remove it's thermostat for a few days this morning.

I have supplied sun screen, plenty of water and ice pops and the mess roam has air con and yard boys have been told to take regular 5 min breaks every hour to cool down if there not in a loading shovel or excavator. They have tinted glass and AC.

Ah..... we are about half-way through our second heatwave and looking forward to next week when we get back to 29 - 30.

Yesterday was 41 and today is heading for 43 ... one just does nbot stay in the sun; I think after just 5 minutes in the sun the thermometer was heading north of 52!

So, as is normal we are now pretending to be mushrooms, living behind closed shutters and doors / windows closed too, just to keep the heat out. Old buildings are great to cool down in (with our 1M thick walls) until they heat up (takes 3 days), then not so good! Nights are not so good either as it was still 32 at 10pm last night whilst I was out watering. We definitely need some rain as nothing for weeks - we store about 3000L for garden watering but it seems to go quicker every year.

Not that I'm moaning ...... but western France is supposed to be 'mild winters' (getting colder each year) and 'not too hot' summers (loger and hotter heatwaves each year).

No such thing as global warming.........

Paul

Paul, I remember a holiday we took a few years ago, flying to Bordeaux then driving a couple of hours due east, ending up just south of Sarlat; at one point the temps were registering 45C - horrible!

I see Bordeaux is admitting to 41C today so I don't envy you.

A long time ago we used to live near Perigeux. Summers were hot but bearable . The days of the big heat used to finish in September, but it also used to get freezing cold in winter when the east wind was blowing.

So cold that one day driving my GS, there was what sounded like a .22 being fired at the front of the car.

That morning as well as being around -15c it was foggy and the sound was caused by heat from the old "code europeanne" bulb being focused at one point of the glass, the contrasting temperatures punched a neat hole in the headlamp glass about 6mm diameter.

Clear Araldite sorted it and was still on it 8 years later when I sold it in the UK. (you could change the dip pattern by sliding a clip over on the headlamp unit)

I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.
I even unplugged my own.

To change a dip pattern in a modern car you probably have to go through an internet server somewhere in the Aleutian Islands.

Almost ... ! That's one thing I quite like about a modern car. Full LED lighting all round, auto lights and auto main beam / dip. Should we head back to the UK, just make a change in the app and the headlights re-adjust. That's of course up until computer says 'No'!
