I have never done a track day and don't have any plans as yet, but have always wanted to. I have just replaced my front brake pads with EBC 'Redstuff' as low dust and clean wheels is my primary desire. On the blurb they say "Not for track use". I emailed for more details and was told:

"You would likely cook the redstuff pads on the track, so you will find they fade, and ultimately you might glaze them and effectively ruin them, although that is less likely. You would probably have a more enjoyable track day by swapping them out for something more suitable for track temperatures. I can't comment on the textar pads you have as I am only familiar with Textar as a standard pad manufacturer (if you have standard textar pads then they would be worse I would expect that the redstuff at high temperatures). The EBC Bluestuff are a more track focused pad, but still road legal so you can still get to and from the track on the road."

So what is the experience of you guys going on the track with standard pads - do they get 'cooked' and ruined? If I were going to track regularly then yes, 'Bluestuff' would be a no brainer, but I may never do it and I'm certainly not paying £356 for pads on one track day just to try it. If I get a chance to do a track day sometime should I take out the Redstuff and put the old Textar pads in and if they get wrecked then it's no loss?

I'm surprised they didn’t recommend Yellowstuff? Best for fast road and lighter track use, which as a novice track user would be your most likely approach I would have thought? However, they are quite "dusty" in my experience.

There's also Ferodo DS2500 for fast road/track use.

I use EBC RPX pads

They are dusty and a bit noisy at low speed, but the bite is incredible

Cost wise, less than £150 a set

Yes, they recommended Bluestuff or Yellowstuff, but that's not quite the point. I don't want blue or yellow as low dust is my main choice factor. The question I'm asking is what happens when you go on a track with normal OEM brake pads (or Redstuff if anyone has experience of them)?

Basically any OEM type pad isn't really suitable for track use, at best you can do a few laps at 60% to avoid brake fade.

When I said Bluestuff was £356 I was thinking all round, but probably just the fronts would do the job meaning £175 or £146 for Yellowstuff - but perhaps there are better value track pads around...
