An induction kit will certainly be better than a replacement filter, but you are not looking at a huge difference on an otherwise standard set up. You will find that they are noisier than the standard airbox, as the recirc valve will be noticeably louder without the air box in place. As it happens, Motorsportworld currently have K&N 57i kits on offer for the 20VT. Click here for further details and use the Bargains tab to find the K&N offers . They are currently £68.66, against a RRP of £89.64 . Fitting is pretty straightforward, and I would say that they are a reasonable first mod to do to your car. You then want to think about a GTEC1 chip (£35ish) and a PRV (£22ish) to really gain some extra performance. Be warned, however, that as soon as you start down the modding route, it's very difficult to stop ! Phil

Gtech is a tuning chip (contact GrahamL on the forum)
PRV is to set your boost level right..
and you'd need a boostgauge...

GTEC is a replacement ECU chip that should give you noticeably more power. PRV is a pressure relief valve that replaces the EBC (electronic boost controller). Both are relatively easy to fit and should give you about another 25bhp with the induction kit .
Basically this set up gives you access to control the turbo boost how you want it. The PRV allows you to set the maximum boost level yourself, and you will also have boost on tap whenever you want it, rather than when the ECU says you can have it .
This set up does really need you to have a boost gauge fitted, for setting the PRV up and monitoring boost levels. These are easy to get hold of on Ebay, and just need a length of vacuum hose and a T-piece to connect up to the car.
Ultimately there are a lot more complicated set ups for the ECU and control of boost levels, but the GTEC and PRV are a good first step to tap into the potential of a turbocharged Coupe at relatively low cost . You can get the GTEC chips by PMing GrahamL, and the PRVs by PMing Cosmograph, but have a read up elsewhere on the Tuning section before you make your mind up.

PRV is a pressure relief valve that replaces the EBC (electronic boost controller). *cough* EB V, not EBC *cough* With all respect to Cosmo's products, I would be a little unhappy replacing my EBC with a PRV

There is all so the ramair from www.torqueitalia.com , it’s about £85 but it is massive . I had the k&n for a bit but I went for this one as I am after big bhp later on ( gtir +fmic+ c&b cams are on the way )

ok guys, this all souns ok,but I dont think I would know where to start!! I have a mate who owns own garage, would the k & n,gtec and prv be easy to fit by him? Also how much/easy are the gauges? Does anyone on here live near pembrokeshire???????? Do it all for me if costs allow? I reckon I got about £250 to start! Would that cover the kn,gtec, prv and gauge or is it all a non starter? Many thanks. No, that sounds fine. PRV (if he has any - there was a problem with his supplier) from Cosmograph is 22 quid or so, and you can fit it yourself. GTEC 1 is (I think) 35 quid from GrahamL, again you can fit this yourself. Check out the Basic FAQ part of the forum for How To guides for fitting the PRV and GTEC - even if you're not mechanically minded, the jobs are easy enough to give you confidence to get to know your way round the Coupe, which is important IMO. Gauge ? Depends what you go for - say 40 quid or so for the gauge, and get someone to fit it for you - my gauge is here - if you don't want yours there, budget for a pillar pod as well, not sure how much they are. K&N ? Don't bother - you'll lose torque, gain 0.00000001 bhp at twelvty thousand revs and the noise will drive you mad. Wait until you get into the stages of a front-mount intercooler and straight induction mod, then fit an Apexi or Ramair cone filter then.

Ignore the fitting kit / bracket / adaptor / whatever it's called - from memory it's a length of Meccano and a jubilee clip for like 12 quid Go to B&Q instead.

It's best not to get me started on either the missing boost gauge, or the decision to replace the oil temp gauge with f****** voltmeter
