Okay whoever owned my coupe before is a gimp

You know you have two ISO connectors, one has the battery and earth etc, and one has all the speaker connections?j

well the speaker one looks fine, but the Power one is MESSED UP! The battery one is cut, so is the black wire.

I can touch the black and red ones together and the head unit illuminates briefly, then turns off. You can't turn it on using the power button.

However, if you press eject it ejects the disc as normal, but then turns off.

Why is this? there is obviously power going to the HU but it won't turn on

Also what does the "ILLUMINATION" wire do? as this isn't wired in.

is the "switched" supply ok? I had the same symptoms as you, the problem turned out to be that the wire for the switched power had come loose (the one to the battery was ok).

I'm giving up.

I connect the red and black wires, the head unit lights up briefly, then turns off. You can't turn it on. However you can eject and open it no problems with all the buttons lit. As soon as you remove the disc, it closes and powers down. I'm going to have to pay an auto electrician £ <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Matt, there are three leads required to power up the Clarion, and most other, head units. On is the eath and then there is the switched live (which is actually permanent on the Coupe) and the permanent live. Without the switched and perm live attached the hear unit will not function.

Use this diagram to trace the correct wires. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

is the yellow (battery) also connected? if so, what happnens if you just connect the black? will the disk still eject etc. if so, sounds like the red (aka switched/IGN) is dodgy??

Thanks for the help guys, but I give up <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I fccucking hate ICE, it's a load of sh*te.
I'm gonna pay an auto electrician to come and install it properly, I'm tired of crackly, dodgy installed head units and speakers.

One wire is a constant battery live with just this connected the unit will only turn on long enough to eject CD's then it powers back down.
The function of this feature is so that you dont have to turn the ignition on with the key to eject a CD. The function of this wire is to keep the unit on standby so to remember its audio/station settings.

The other wire is the ignition it only becomes live with the ignition turned on. This allows the radio to turn on/off with the ignition (or in the coupe's case instead of an ignition wire it has a second battery live wire) This is why the radio has to be manually turned on and off.

The head unit will only work with both wires being live. Obviously the ground wire is also required to be connected

I agree with the mule, if someone else has messed with the wires etc and you do not have the correct testing tools it is probably best to get a specialits in.

Consider now Matt if you want to the stereo to have a switched live (i.e. goes of with the ignition) as the coupe is wired without a switched live. If you do he can set up a proper feed.

Mine looks like a blind man wielding a crowbar was tasked with removing the previous 6,000 head units. I intend to replace it at some point.

Out of interest Matt does the head unit have a connector in the back to run another screen from, say in the headrest for example.
Looking to put a screen in the back for minimee and rather than have a seperate dvd player one like yours would be great.
Other option is a PS2 but would be nice to have a front screen too..

Taffy, I had faith in you.

My mum said today "Isn't that Taffy lad nice, getting his dad to drive him down to help you"

My words were "it's okay mum Taffy's dad is a Coupe Groupie, he's just a slut for the pininfarina styling" which was met with the madatory "oh matthew don't be silly" <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Hey pinin i was in halfords the other day and they had a very similar headunit as yours but the two round button clusters were either side of the screen, anyways when i looked at it it had a number of flags on the screen and TOMTOM written in the corner.
Could this be the perfect head unit TOMTOM DVD MP3 ipod all in one for £399.
Can you get tomtom for yours, i cant find any details about it on jvcs web site?

It's probably the KD-AVX2, the second model, if you will. Looks identical but looks like a widescreen. You must be able to get satnav on it also.
Up to you, personally I'd buy Blanchy's KD-AVX1 from the parts for sale, and then buy the GARMIN sat nav on offer in halfords for £99. You've then saved yourself £100 also. But yeah if you want everything all in one then why not.
