Will you set up a group buy thread? If you do could you add me to the possibles list please.

Has anyone else got a GT28R fitted to an otherwise standard car, and if I fit it could it affect the fueling much? Are there any cons to fitting one of these over just reconing my current shagged one?

the con is it may be a bit more fiddly getting it on and the heatshield may not go back on without modding but it shouldnt affect your fuelling unless you up the boost
Do you have a spare standard turbo kicking about your garage at all Matt??

Im gunna start a group buy thread as soon as the kit is ready for order and on their site

KP have you got a name or email that your speaking with. Wouldnt mind having a word in their ear regarding the 16vt units (will also help out the integrale lot too as they use the same outlet flange)

Cheers

But if it comes with an uprated actuator the base boost will be increased

I wish, I'm afraid I'm not going to take mine off the car to measure as I haven't got my ratchet spanners yet . Could you not find out from Turbo Dynamics?

Skins, if you car is otherwise standard I would have thought either the GTI hybrid or superspool hybrid would be a better option for you and they are bolt on

Yesa it will increase the base boost but that is the minimum amount of boost the turbo can run before the wastegate opens.

IIRC it goes from a 0.6bar actuator to 0.8bar actuator.

With a PBV/PRV screwed all the way in youd be hard pushed to tell the difference IME

Jamie your a star! YHPM

Why are they better? The GT28R looks cheaper and more highly specified at the moment. I'll be fitting it myself so I have no worries about butchering the heat shield or fitting adapter plates. My decision will largely be affected by the price of the units I suppose.

Sorry for being obtuse but if the wastegate opens at .8 bar instead then will the turbo kick in at higher revs?

Well I thought to get the efficiency of the GT28R or RS you need to turn up the boost to get in the power and you say your car is otherwise standard I assumed you don't have an IC, fuel pump, chip, etc to cope with the increased boost and temperatures that it will be running.

Therefore by going for a hybrid would give better results as it will enable you to hold boost to closer to the red line but still keep your car as is.

And I don't think the GT28R will be cheaper by the time you add the turbo to the adaptor will it

The price that i quoted was for all the bits i could think of, if you do it without the bits then it works out at £439 Not bad me thinks for what you get.

The roller bearing units are known to be able to take more abuse from poeple and they usually cost more due to this. Not saying the superspool units are bad or anything, and they have had good reviews from other members on here, but for what im looking for, which is long life, they should cope quite well and with the odd bit of high boost.

I believe it will kick in at a couple more 100 rpm and then the RS a bit further up the spectrum.

The wastegate doesnt control when the turbo kicks in but just how much boost it can run. So if you want to run 0.8bar all day long using a PRV/PBV you just set it there, but if you want to run 1.3bar a lot then its fine for that as well...

If I've followed all this correctly, and ATP offer us a kit that bolts straight on to the 2.25" std fitting, we should be able to get a GT28R from the US at the same price as a Hybrid from the UK (I hope).

Totally agree with you KP and about the turbos. I was answering skins as he said his car is otherwise standard in which case a hybrid IMO would make more sense. I have gone for the superspool due to the ease of fitting, btu also I will not be taking my car over 1.2 and no further mods will be done on it, so for me that unit fits perfectly.

What I still can't work out is though, what is your price, for turbo and bits

I believe that depicts the kind of bearing in the GT turbos and the bearing used in standard and hybrids of the T28 is...

JimO,

Im hoping that the price for a kit from ATP will be about as much as whats depicted below, if not less in a group buy format if we can all order via their online form. It makes it easier for them and gives them a bigger business scope(lots of 20vt's out there could benefit from this) and for any of the specialists as it is a turbo thats been proven before and the only person i know who has blown one up is JohnS on his power monster

Code Product Quantity Price/Ea. Total
GRT-TBO-002 Garrett GT2560R (aka GT28R)
$775.00 $775.00
Specify_AR: 64AR

ATP-FLS-023 V-Band Adapter - GT25/GT28
$95.00 $95.00

ATP-FTG-015 Fitting, 45 deg, 1/2" NPT male to 5/8" single slip on barb
$19.95 $19.95

ATP-FLA-010 Aluminum - Oil Drain Flange (GT/T25)
$15.00 $15.00

ATP-FLA-011 Aluminum - GT28R/GT25R/T25 Compressor Outlet Adapter
$39.00 $39.00

ATP-FLA-012 Aluminum - Inlet Flange GT25/28/28RS
$39.00 $39.00
Total: $982.95

My turbo is largely standard, it has a Gtec1.3, cone filter and catback exhaust and has a poo-ey hybrid at the mo.

Whats going on it and should be the last of the engine mods for a fair while is , Pro Alloy FMIC, and straight induction pipe. Im also thinking of decatting her and having her setup on the rollers again for the gas but i may run into problems as their rollers at F1 only do upto 200bhp at the wheels so im hoping to shatter that and hit about 220ish with all of the above on LPG as its all a case of keeping charge temps super low for me as to get the best bang out of the gas

How much is a hybrid/superspool? It seems Barbz only quotes with fitting. Thanks JimO - I'm really confused now

Superspool = £595 on an exchanged basis and i think Barbz charges £150 to fit. Its on his website

From 495 to 605 quid delivered, depending on if it's a Superspool or hybrid, and then depending on the actuator. There's a price list on his website

Sorry Begbie fish brain moment there

Im just emailing them direct at sales@atpturbo.com

No names at the bottom of the mails though just lookig thru them

As soon as i can get the specs off to them then we can see about getting a proper exact kit price from them but i would hope for it to be no more than £560 all in

Skins the GT28r is very similar to the GTi-R hybrid in terms of size and trim etc, it is more efficient due to the roller bearing design.
Provided you've uprated the ECU, say a Gtech etc then I don't see any problem running a GT28r on an otherwise standard Coupe
