I`ve heard this mod mentioned over the years but never quite known whats involved <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />. Is it something easy enough to do if i ever have to take the head off <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />.

I`ve tried looking on the net for some info but i haven`t found anything going into detail, can anybody enlighten me <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

You can't do it to 20VT as it uses a multilayer gasket.

Not an easy thing to do really. The head needs to be off, the engine needs to be out, and then a CNC machine of sort will insert a small groove around the cyclinder at the top where the head mates to the block, you then insert a small wire into the groove, then put the head down and tighten it up. This allows you to run more boost as it stops the gases getting past and breaking the head gasket

installation of "wills" rings will work on a normal type of gasket arrangement, but the stock coupe gasket is so goodm that you'd waste your time, plus of course the coop gasket is a layered type, whioh is no good, unless you insist on the wills rings making contact with the fire rings in the gasket ( which is almost impossible ) as you'd be machining so close to the bore edge, you'd suffer deformation.

best ensure the OE mounting surfaces are distortion free & CLEAN = perfect seal <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

spend your dosh elsewhere <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

even on the 500 bhp coops, no "wills" rings are required <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

For the 20v's its easy, the 16v's is different matter
