Hi guys.. I have purchased this turbo that probably be someting new than the old Gt28R.
The power expected is 350hp and it represent a specific upgrade for Skyline R32, in italy we test that this turbo has better spool up then the RS 0.64 and the same result at the high rpm) this are the pics:

See the Gt2871R wastegate (optional)

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6554/dscn1635jc5.jpg

See that particolar barrier between the wastegate gas and turbo gas

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/9982/dscn1636yw4.jpg

The problem now is... What is the best downpipe for this turbo?

I thougt by the a 3" one.. but here in italy we use to do this kind of downpipe..

This is a gt28R

Stefanus,.. sorry for the confusion,.. but I think that most of us guys here running 'gt28rs' are in fact running gt2860r.

This is due to a labelling confusion on atp's website.

Now I have read the thread.. so my conclusion is that I have bought Gt2860R (the hybrid R/RS) selled by atp, http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/mercha...tegory_Code=BCS

I hope that it will be a great turbo under my engine..

So seeing your downpipe.. I see that you prefer this kind of plate..

It is all open... the italian one instead are more closed..

Here is the Italian downpipe section for Gt28R...see the difference with the Turboj one.. the plate seems to be with a smaller entry..

There is three possibility:

First:

http://www.stockreco.com/Mvc-ELBOW2.jpg

Second:

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/mercha...egory_Code=GTBB

Third:

http://jayman.bulldoghome.com/photos/bdres/jayman_bulldoghome_com/DSC00091.JPG

which is the best?

Consider that the 60R unit has this http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/9982/dscn1636yw4.jpg barrier between Wg gas and turbo gas, is it good leave that wg gas flows out with the turbo gas (third option).. or this could create turbolence?

That plate is going to restrict the turbo.

So you prefer the third option?

Prefer??? I own it <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> This 3" downpipe has been custom made specially for the GT series on a 20VT. Thanks to all the people who was involved Highwayman & Nigel etc. Guess you better start reading this thread now.

I know that you onw it. For the thread.. it's difficult for me read all that page in english... ^_^

Here in Italy I'll do a 3" pipe like yours, but I have to choose the flange.. so you tell that your (very opened) is the best for GT bb turbo and 20vt..

Well if you can't get one like mine then i would go with this one (http://www.stockreco.com/Mvc-ELBOW2.jpg) as it looks less restrictive than the ATP adaptor. Also try PM Kingpleb as he setup a group for for some adaptors for cheap.

My prep tells me that he can do the same downpipe as you mount.. but he tells me even that with that open size i could loss the main BB spec of GT turbo..

You confirm that for the GT series the full open flange is the best solution?

I think this one looks quite good, with separate pipes for wastegate and turbine. But does it fit?

It dosen't have a seperate pipe for the wastegate plus the GT28R's are internal.

I doubt it will fit very much, at the turbo outlet, the downpipe makes a very acute turn, and it is a difficult curve to replicate, that downpipe unforunately is too straight.

So the TurboJ one (with the all open flange) is probably the best for R/Rs turbo?

No? Looks like it to me, as there are two pipes side by side, and the flange looks like it separates the exit from the turbine from the wastegate (even if it's internal).
Though it might not fit, didn't really think about that.
