Had a chat with Demon Tweeks today, they will do the Dunlop D01J's for £88 inc vat.
Need to phone Dunlop motorsport devision on Monday to see if they can do better.
Anyone else interested in a set of these ?

Had o go on a the track this saturday:
What can I say, the R888 (hard) 225/45-16 works really good after only 1 lap, and works like glue for 4-5more laps. Then even they start to slide, but I suppose it's impossible to make anything last forever.
So, for long races driving hard, I'd vote for pure slicks.

Having said this, I'm still not sure I had the correct pressure. I started out (cold) with 1.8bar all-round. After the first race I had almost 3bar on the fronts, lowered that to 2.6bar. It seemed to work, and the temps over the tire seemed pretty even. What do you think?

Had about 5 races in all and the weather was perfect, sunny but not too hot. They didn't wear much except on the outer far edge left front.. (even though I have -1.5deg camber, should be more but I don't like torquesteer)
Will last for a while. Sounds like an airplane though!

1.8 bar = 180 kpa

is way way too low.

when I track , I start the fronts at 240 kpa = 36 psi.

I think your 888s were overheating from the underinflation.

So what pressure when hot then? That's what matters I guess. As I said I had 3 but lowered it to 2.6bar.

Jimbo the d01j's are no longer in production it's now the d02j's which aren't as good. I have had both on the d01's are the best. I'm going for a set of dunlop slicks i think next. With a second set of alloys and a trailer too it will also help with understeer and give great grip. I think those tyres that pistole had pictures of were Pirelli tarmac tyres which are brilliant tyres too and not too expensive at £110 each. Very soft though. I'll bring all my part worns to Silverstone in case anyone needs them.

Drove my Toyo's to the limits again yesterday, trackday (half-day-off.. )... Seems I'm still to high on pressure; started on 2bar.
First 10laps: almost 3bar! Lowered to 2.4bar.
Second race, about 8 laps; 2.7bar! Lowered again to 2.4.
It still get slippery after 5-6laps so I may try 2.2bar (hot) next time.
BTW, my Brembo caliper's are now not only slightly gold, but fully bronze!!

It seems like you are pushing too hard.
You can inspect the tyre wear if it's even at the whole tread width.
Even better, next time you go to the track take with you a surface temp. meter and record tyre tread temperature immediately after the session. You mast drive fast but avoid to "overdrive" the tyres. Most DOT tyres temp. limit is 80-90 C (for more accuracy you mast find Toyo operating temp.)
Then you can adjust the tyre press. in order to have equal temp. at the outer-middle-inner tread width but the tyre operating temp. mast not be exceeded
Lower air press give higher temps and vice-versa. If you are heaving high temp with high press you are pushing too hard the tyres.
Note that the outer tread temp. maybe higher if you are running stock camber at front and that all 4 tyres maybe are requiring different air pressures

Can't remeber what it is now, but can't you get your tyres filled with a diffrent type of gas that doesn't affect the tyre pressures so much with temp change?

if you track often , don't use Nitrogen. You can't adjust
pressures on track unless Nitrogen is available.

the advice about , essentially , using a pyrometer to check
temps across the tyre crown is what racers use to determine
suspension setup and tyre pressures. But that is premised
upon a track-car capable of suspension setup.

Has anyone tried the Dunlop DZ02G yet ?

I called Dunlop, they have stopped producing the D01J tyre now but its been replaced by this DZ02G tyre that they said is a huge improvement, unfortunately they dont do the 205/50/16 any longer.
They put me through to Mr Tyre Motorsport who will do the new improved tyre in a 225/45/16 for £120 + VAT.

Seem a lot of money for a tyre that will only get used 4 times a year, think I might just stick with road tyres and keep the speed down instead.

Could get the 205/50R16 Yokohama A032R soft compund rather than the Dunlops. I don;t think the dunlops suit FWD cars very well (well the front wheels at least), as the sidewall is too hard.

Does no-one read my posts ever????

The DZ02j's are not as good full stop.

I'll probably bring some part worn Dunlops to Silverstone if anyone wants to buy them, not sure how many though.

I'm looking at slicks now or rally tarmac tyres.

Sparco,

I did read your post but I dont understand why they aren't as good as the tyres they replaced ?

Dunlop and My Tyres both said these are a much improved tyre.

What Dunlops are you bringing with you, I could be interested if they are a good price

I have 2 D02's anyway and probably some D01's.

I get mine from guys who race in saloons and they reckon the grip level isn't as good. When i tried them i didn't notice a huge difference but then i haven't used a brand new set. The D01's are very good, i'm on my third set now, but as i said i have a trailer so i will probably go the slick route. It should help with the understeer in the slower corners and the extra grip will help all over.
