Oh yes

just received notice that they are ready.....

well okay, the coop is immobile ( infact declared SORN ! )

but once the new lump is fitted, brakes are quite vital, seeing as the coop OEM stuff is purely no good anymore, I've invested in keeping myself on the road ( ignore the Alfa logos ), these are PROPER Genuine F40 calipers, floating genuine discs, custom machined hubs, no messing about

the cost..

Calipers

and a reverse view

reverse view

I have also took the plunge & gone for a twin plate ( just hoping that it drives as close to OEM as possible ) given that it's also unsprungs, so just hoping it's not too snatchy, but my advisor recommends this as the best available version

helix twin plate

now all I need is a coop to put them onto !

Taz

Set of upgraded 147/156 GTA Brembo 4 pots, thats what they are.Taken off the back of a Ferarri and used by Alfa Romeo to cure brake warping on the smaller 4 pots and 305mm discs on the GTA,s.Still look nice though.

Well done.

Hey Taz, good to see it's coming together again Do you know how much more braking force these have than the coupé 4 pot Brembos?

not measured them ( how could I ! ) but the front / rear calipers on a F40 are the same

put it this way, they won't warp on the coop

I think they are about 355 - 360mm discs & miles ahead of our 20v brembos

safe to say they've been tested prior to me investing

worth every peeny & the work involed to make them fit

iirc , the 147GTA's front brembos were initially 305 mm -
ie same as the coupe's.

but they were subsequently revised and resulted in loads
of used 305mm setups in the market.

.

v. nice discs .... drool.

Lot of integrales running around with F40 brakes, Barry at EvoCars pioneered the conversion

Must be a lot of F40s not running around because someone has stolen their brakes - they can't all be museum cars

hehee... good stuff there Taz!

I was chatting to your 'advisor' on Friday , and he was giving me the low down on these discs as well as other goodies!,.. they do sound fantastic, the only and important point to note for any brake hungry Coupe owners is that they won't fit on standard 16" rims.

Joe

what about the full F40 conversion, brakes/wheels?

I know they're 1 stud, but surely the Advisor can convert the 20VT hub somehow???

Photoshop 20VT with F40 rims anyone?????

Sideways a LOT

Yup Chris's car. Think the calipers are 550 or 575 maranello calipers

Ive been looking into these and is it not also possible to take the full setup from a 675 marranello?? they look like they would just about fit for us if we had larger wheels of course...

Guys,

Markus is running the same brake setup and there's plenty of pics of his car about if you want to see what it looks like. He is using a 330x32mm solid disc though as they are available in 5 stud fitment.

KP - almost any brake setup can be made to fit, the difficulty and cost is associated with developing the ally bells so that the disc has the correct offset and stud pattern, and the correct brackets so that the caliper can be mounted to our mounting points (and there is no general standard for mounting points) and ensuring the bracket the correct offset relative to the disc. So yes in principle you could take any Ferrari calipers, but how would you get hold of the desired ones? My Porsche calipers cost £350+VAT for EACH caliper from Porsche.

The size of disc you can fit under a wheel depends on the wheel design quite a bit - eg. my 340mm discs easily clear the 17" Team Dynamics pro race 1.2s but barely clear my Azev E so much so that I have to use 12mm spacers to clear the support band at the back of the alloy face.

Sorry JohnS i meant to put in the rear brakes would bea good upgrade as they look like 4pot brembos but must have a brake cable pull on them to be able to be fitted without issue and look about the same size as our current front brakes

they would indeed. I think Ferraris usually have a drum brake on the rear within the disc for the handbrake though, unless the car you mention is different. Some of the Jags have a seperate handbrake caliper so there are two calipers on the rear wheel which is another way to get around the problem of the handbrake.
