http://www.max-boost.co.uk/max-boost/Gotchas.htm

Just read the above link about turbos (very informative) as I have a suspicion about mine, but went on to click on the other links on the left hand side.

What got me in particular was the page on breathing.

According to this chap we are a bunch of muppets for drilling airboxes, swapping panel filters and installing induction kits.

These don't work as well as we all believe and are apparently c**p at filtering the air thus causing untold damage to our engines.

Please have a good look at all the pages on this site and post comments below.

I really don't know what to think anymore!

Not being funny but I come from a motor sport back ground , and I personally think that if you use and maintain your cotton/foam air filters correctly then there is not a problem.

My experiences:

1: I use to do school boy grasstrack and speedway (all off road so lots of dirt) then went on to do speedway at an adult level (above 16). I all ways used k&n with a foam outer sleeve.
Never had a problem in fact one of my engines is still in use to day still with no problems (it’s about 8 years old).

2: I use to help out and work at a formula Renault team and they used itg foam panels. Now these engines are basically Clio 187 lumps that have a remapped ecu panel filter and a zorst. The engine has to last the year plus its factory sealed so no strip downs etc are allowed. Again never a problem due to dirt getting into the engine.

I can’t see race team’s spending thousands of pounds on engines only to fccuk it up by using cotton/foam air filters.
All the engine rebuilds I have done over the years have been down to over revving and running the engine on its limits all the time (basically having the nuts thrashed out of it). But this is only my experiences.

I wonder what nyssa7 has to say.

Ok just herd back from my m8 and he works at branshach on there cars ,he also thinks it’s a load of bull.

But he did raise the fact that if you are allowing more air through to you engine the filter is not filtering the very fine bits of dust, but this is not a problem as there that small.
