Thinking of trying a drilled box with K&N panel filter, can anyone tell me :-
o what the increase in noise is like ?
o is there any noticeable improvement in performance ?
Thanks...

Drilled Air Box isn't good for performance, noise of torque in low mode
you will have just a good sound

I have the drilled box with K&N panel filter on my coupe. I haven’t noticed any loss or gain of performance. The main change is the noise which is fantastic. Not too loud but a great sound when you put your foot to the floor. I got a drilled box off the forum in case I wanted to put mine back on. Realy easy to fit.
Go for it

o what the increase in noise is like ?
I read in the old forum someone describe it as 'Darth Vader in your glovebox'.. I don't notice that it's much different from standard if your gentle on the throttle, it's when you push on, (as people have said) it makes a nice growl. Your recirc DV (if you still have it) will sound a little more like a dump to atmos one too. o is there any noticeable improvement in performance ?
To me it felt a little less torquey in the midrange but seemed to pull slightly stronger at the top of the rev range. Hope that helps.

I noticed a bit of a drop in torque low down the rev range when i did mine. Lovely sound - but not as nice as a k&n57i/Darth Vader!

MCMike - try to get hold of an airbox that has been drilled by someone. That way if you don't like the sound you can always put your old airbox back on.
I think i saw one on eBay earlier.

you can always repair it with gaffa tape later. make sure its sticks well as you dont want to suck it into the filter

Personally I wouldn't waste the tenner. As Leedscoupe said, you can always tape over the holes if you don't like it, job done
I had this mod before - nice sound, lost low down torque slightly though, so I just taped the holes up again. I also noticed when I did this that the car became a bit smoother to drive again
