Brute force, pull and turn at the same time. Just watch you don't smack yourself in the face. Either that or have your chinchilla chew it off for you!!

Had no problem with mine. Used an open spanner placed under the knob and hit upwards with a hammer. Dont know what all the fuss is with getting knobs off, unless the knob fitter got bored and glued some on

towel around the base (will catch the mess), a dremel with cutting disk, 30 seconds later new gear knob is on and job done. no point wasting time or effort any other way.

Did manage to remove mine with the spanner/hammer method, but it took 3-4 dozen hits because you cant get a good swing at it, and I felt worried about possible damage to the linkage beneath. I replaced mine with a chrome plated thing I bought off Ebay, looks ok, and a better shape than the original, but it gets boiling hot in summer, and ice cold in winter!
