Ive just been out to get some discs and pads for the rear. Im looking at getting some 3G discs for the fronts in a couple of months or so, so thought I would price up some fast road pads for the fronts.
Ive read good reviews on here about EBC greenstuff pads and was quoted £85 for the fronts (which apparently are only rated upto 200bhp?). I was then told by the bloke on the counter that the mintex fast road pads were as good as the EBC and that the Mintex were only £52.
Anybody using mintex fast road pads? Any good or are the EBC worth the extra?

I've found the Mintex to perform better than the EBCs with 3G discs. But both suffer from fade if you do too many high speed tests!!

Better than the EBC pads! Might give them a go then.
Does £52 sound about the right money for Mintex pads?

which pads are they?
1144's are mintex's fast road pads... pretty good unless you drive on the road like a total nutter.

They are renound for being the worst for squeeling tho. I have them with standard discs and they are terrible. Be warned.

I dont drive it like I stole it but I just want some decent fronts as the standard drilled discs and pads I have on at the momment arnt upto the job IMO.
Im not sure if there 1144's. He said Mintex pads were £35 and the Mintex fast road pads were £52?

I suppose I can put up with noise as long as the thing stops. I'll make sure that the pads are 1144's before I part with my cash. Cheers guys

Hmmm I have these pads with my 3G Discs and I wont be having the same again. After reading all other posts I must drive like a nutter I am a spirited driver who believes that Italian Cars were made to drive. Couple of heavy braking and they fade pretty bad.Personally I'm going for Pagid Blues next time

I melted a set of Mintex 1144s within three miles of fitting them.
New pads and discs - off to the local dual cariageway to bed them in.
up to 70ish, mediom brake down to 10mph - repeat three times, then up to high speed and hard brake - pedal went to the floor and clouds of smoke from the wheelarches
When I called Mintex, they said the melting temp of the resin bonding material was about 550-600 degrees, and that repeated hard braking had caused me to exceed this - basically, I melted the pads.
A subsequent trackday at Bedford saw me reach the 850 degree temp limits of Pagid Yellows (although on these, it was the trailing edge that crumbled rather than the resin melting)
Basically, Coupes are very hard on pads, mainly due to the crap cooling to the inside of the wheel.
Its generally accepted that the best pad (being a compromise between performance and price) is the Pagid Blue.

Tarox lasted me quite a few days before I killed them - quite pricey too.
To date, there have only been two setups that I haven't killed or faded.
Pagid yellow pads on either 3G or DBA discs
Red Dot race pads on Red Dot grooved discs
Both setups were staggering in their braking performance - repeated heavy stops from three-figure speeds failed to make them fade.
However, the Pagid pads last me about 15,000 - 20,000 miles, the Red Dots less than 2,000 miles
Also, when you're on high-friction pads, you'll get through discs more quickly, but seeing as the pads are more expensive than the discs, this isn't really a problem.

the edges that reduce its width. the pad is usually too fat to fit in the caliper as the guides raise up due to a build up of gunk underneath them. You have to file the edges so that the pad moves freely in the caliper (or in some cases just to get it to fit in!).
