Buggers will nick anything up in Cumbria, have you reported it?
Pete
16VT and X1/9 1500
We must all do our part for the planet. I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

Well, to answer some of the questions: Quote:
How long did it take
I don't know really. I've been "picking" at it over the last few weeks (or could that be months now?). The suspension was off and has all been tarted/renewed ready for refitting (it's in the dining room ). The engine drop took the best part of four hours by the time all the wiring was disconnected, gearchange links undone, water/fuel pipes undone etc etc. Biggest problem was working on a driveway: even with an engine hoist it was difficult. The engine was lowered onto padding then the front of the car lifted four feet in the air and the engine dragged out (ouch my poor back!).

that's given me an idea: next time I'm taking the car and parking it in Liverpool for an hour........

You'd be surprised how few tools you need for this job, I know I was. 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm sockets/spanners, Screwdriver, one flat and one philips. Set of ribe sockets. Hammers, three off, big, bigger and "get me an ambulance!" sized. Two jars of "Rocket Fuel" coffee (Tesco only) and twenty-three packets of chocolate Hob-Nobs. One bottle, Glenfiddich single malt whisky.
The adjustable spanner wasn't for the car: it was used to beat passing kids who asked "is it broken mister?"

or C. All of the above Get decent days off, needed to get the engine into the garage before the cold weather heads in. Plan to spend the winter fettling all the bits, no rush. Replace all the bits as time allows (and funds ) and then refit in the spring when the warmer weather arrives. Until then the coupé can sit under her nice Tyvek car cover If there's any photos that are required to assist how-to guides or if anyone wants specific pictures of something then now is the time to ask!

Will you do the typical "bloke" thing and sell after you have done all the work/spent all the money?

Noooooooooooo! But it's funny you ask that: I did the same to a Mk2 Golf GTi which I'm now thinking of selling to fund the restoration of the coupé (I love that trick with the é, can you téll? ).
Of course I may end up trading down to a turbo version
