a few grand on a stand alone ECU with traction control - or a boost controller that will limit the boost in lower gears. Or control it with your right foot!

I would say adjusting the boost controller too/different controller or not giving it quite so much in the lower gears, not easy though when your trying to have a burn up.

how about you just don't race on public roads? I think he generally wants to limit wheelspin...be it on a track or on the road...

Doesn't say anywhere it was a public road. thats also true but i don't think you can go to a track and have a race with just an M3 if he was on th strip, he wauld have said he was on the strip or asked for drag advice

Yep Easy I have RLTC. Works very well once you have tweeked the setting from standard.
Althought it's not cheap , I think it cost me about £470 inc delivery (it's about £1k retail ) but this was on a group buy with the SX200 forum. It was a relatively straight forward DIY fit, once I got over the nerves of cutting into my ECU loom and connecting into the ABS system

asked for drag advice of which you would have been the best person to respond

Don't take on M3 CSL's from a standing start. They've got RWD and much, much more grip.
You only started to reel him in at the end as he was probably coasting by that point having left you for dead.

That was more my interpretation too.
BTW Genuine CSL's are rarer than hens teeth and you just happen to find one waiting to race you on an industrial estate.

The M3 CSL is a real monster anyway. I suppose it depends on what sort of driving you do and how much you want to spend. You just have to think about how often you launch the car and whether it really warrants spending out the cash on a good TC system.
I suppose the question is, would you have kept up if you had TC already fitted?

lol i havent got a clue but one things for sure my car was faster in gear but in 1st n second gear i was spining the wheels dont matter if i dont beat m3 csl's i just want good traction to be honest. 1st and second gear seem pointless with all that wheel spin. The car was deffinatly faster when standered in 1st not so much second. feels like i aint even moving. lol
oh n yes deffinatly worth it!

Refit the standard EBV , doesn't that limited power in 1st and 2nd or something to prevent wheelspin?!

You'd have though BMW GB would have bought that when they knew the CSL was due to be launched.

The Motec isn't worth it though as a traction control tool unless you're also thinking about alternative engine management. Fully setup it's a lot more than a Unichip + RLTC.
in theory the latest Motec traction control is better than RLTC because it utilises hall sensors rather than magnetic pickups (the standard ABS items) and therefore it is more sensitive especially at low speeds. It also has more options for what it does - i.e. you can retard the timing rather than cut, or retard then cut rather than cutting only as RLTC does. It can also cut either fuel or ignition, and can also retard the ignition to provide part or full boost launches.
I haven't compared the two systems in the 'real world' but would say RLTC is a very good bit of kit if a bit pricey.

and one last advise, don’t race any car from standing start! Its really the weak point of coops (yes, coop not coupé ) especially with M3s
