Insurance write off - wondering what it's worth #226215

Lost control on a bend on Friday night, spun the car into a hedge/ditch and had the car looked at over the weekend by a few people and the consensus is that it's repairable but it'd be too much time/money repairing so been advised to make a claim with the insurance company

So I'm wondering how much it'd be worth if I bought it back and sold it to somebody who could break it or repair it

Don't know how relevant the info below is but here are the details:

I'll get the full details later but it was a side on crash so the passenger side door, rear quarter, wing, bumper and bonnet is damaged. The sils need welding to make it roadworthy but the chassis doesn't seem to be bent. The A and B pillars are sound. None of the windows are smashed and the air bag didn't go off

The car is driveable but I think the track rod ends are damaged

The engine is undamaged and was/is perfect. Has 80k, full dealer history. 1 middle aged owner before me (I've only done 3,000 miles in the car) and mainly motorway miles. It's on the original turbo, which doesn't smoke, original clutch which is worn but doesn't slip

It's a W reg, moon grey, 6 speed, plus wheels with nearly new continentals all round (wheels need a refurb but no damage in the crash), leather, air con, push button start etc

Pics below

Coupe side

Coupe rear quarter

Coupe door

Coupe sils

Coupe bonnet

I am totally fine by the way, other than being gutted and as the car was on my dad's company inurance I'm not sure if he'll be keen on me getting another one, although I can't imagine driving anything else I'm going to look into the for sale section now, regardless!

Any advice?

Why not stick a mirror on it and keep it at least you won't have to worry about parking and people opening doors onto it

I could have it repaired but driving a car which I know had been damaged would bug me - I like things to be perfect. Plus the time involved in getting quotes for parts, labour then actually getting the repairs done etc would stress me out. I'd rather sell it to somebody you will break it or has the time/patience to repair it

Definitely getting another one though. Just waiting for the insurance money to come through then I'll probably insure one myself, rather than on my dad's company policy now that I'm 26 and the quotes are reasonable

i'd repair it and keep it

2nd hand bonnet
2nd hand door
new sill
repair the 1/4 panel
bit of piss!!

if you wernet so far away i'd consider giving you a cheap quote!!

i know the feeling tho a bus went into the 1/4 of my car over a year ago but i had it repaired and the damage was much worse than your quater!!

im a bit of a perfectionist too but what they say is true. "what you cant see wont hurt" especially when there are other things to take you mind of it like the speed and acceleration!!

get it done!!be happy!!

Insurers will write that off - £3k+ for repair - prob 8hrs to replace rear quarter alone imo. Similar damage to mine

You will prob be offered the car back for a few £000. Reckon you should claim and start again.

Sad to see another done.

To be honest mines a relatively easy repair - 2nd hand door, wing, mirror and plate - fit and paint. The bonnet is superficial, paint. The rear quarter with some skill could be repaired.

Sent the claim off to the insurers so waiting for them to get back to us and I'll take it from there. If I can buy it back for a few hundred, as Mark20v said, I'll do that and then decide whether to repair/sell/break

I'm driving a cinquecento at the moment...sporting model though! My football team think it's hilarious

Want to repair the car instead of writing it off but I wondered if anybody knew if it would be possible, instead of putting a new quarter in to buy a non runner and take the whole shell off? Or is that a lot more simple sounding than the actual job? Seen two non runners go on ebay for the £500 mark in the last few weeks

If this is possible I presume it'd have to be a 20vt non runner because of different mounting points on the 16v, 16vt and 20v?

Take the shell off, its a complete shell/chassis, not sepearateable.

Nope too much work, you can use any shell, but the doors etc are different, then you have the ID which you cannot swap, then a full paintjob and everything else.

Not a sensible idea.

Ive got a moon grey 20vt 6 coming very soon.

Hard front but the rest is ok, ideal to cut some chunks from if your repiaring.

You could cut your nose and fit it to this shell.

Will be very cheap and i can deliver, be quick though be weighed in within a couple of days.

I've still not got this sorted so looking for some advice. If I had my engine put in another coupe, would it have to be a 6 speed or would any 20vt be OK? Anybody advise on what else I need to consider apart from the 6 speed thing?

Thanks in advance

Hire a transit van or a trailer.
