This might be of some interest to 16VT owners.
This adapter looks like it bolts in between the exhaust manifold and a T3 flanged turbo and gives you a Tial/Deltagate 38mm external wastegate flange.

Not cheap tho!!

and then the added cost of making a new down pipe, new oil feed, new oil return feed, new water feeds and then the turbo would either be hitting the radiator or hitting the block / sump

fair enuff if it wouldn't fit
