Can someone just explain the difference to me when injecting a methanol/water mix, rather than just water thorugh a aquamist, whats the benefit of the methonal from a chemistry point of view etc,

Methanol has anti-knock properties, raises the effective RON of your fuel. It is also more effective in cooling.

always remember to get your car remapped if you change the mixture though.

what and where do you buy methanol ?

I take it the methanol is an antifreeze aswell??

it may be in antifreeze but don't go putting that in your aquamist bottle! needs to be as pure as possible. antifreeze will be full of detergents and the like.

a lot of people source it from model shops, one like here for example.

I thought it was better to use Nitromethane though or is that direct mixing with your petrol?

It goes off quickly as well does it not and loses its performance properties over a month or two? im sure you could easy get thru a gallon of the stuff in that time though

You can mix that with methanol and water in the right proportions.

yep, this forum has been down more time than its been up in the last couple of years, but will tell you much much moer than you ever needed to know about the injection mixtures and the science of it all!

Nitromethane doesnt mix very well with water, you can add a little fairly liquid to help but over time it still seperates. Could always use it neat I suppose, give you slot of Bang!!! Lol.

There was a chap that was adding progressively increasing amounts of nitromethane to his aquamist injection and rolling roading afterwards. tbh there was very little difference till he was getting to the point when he couldnt mix it any more with the solution, so the idea has been abandoned.. i was toying with the idea though
