If you have an independent witness that was not in your car then you should have claimed directly from the van man insurance. If you have legal protection insurance then use them to get the money back. Give the other insurance co a written quote and go from there.

The only time you want to be claiming on your full comp insurance is if its your fault or if you are happy to lose your no claim bonus and/or cant be bothered with the hassle of trying to claim it from someone else.

Didn't think about all that at the time. I have just received a letter from a legal firm who will claim back the excess. I have protected no claims. And I didn't have a witness at first, when I made the call. He came past 2 hours later, saw I was still with my car, and stopped. Said he couldn't stop before as he was late to an appointment.

i would say that is your property untill they pay for it. id be kicking up hell and fury if they did that to my coupe without letting me get my bits out.

Did the car get towed from where the crash happened or your house?

Not being a tighty here but if my coupe was ever in any doubt what would happen to it from an insurance claim i would be stirpping stuff from it on my drive before they came to pick it up sneaky but they never asked if it had all four seats in it, or the radio, or a carpet or the like lol

No shouldnt have let it go at all, if the car goes walkies you havent any evidence as to its pre accident condition etc. HBC wont care they will sell that fast as they can.

It was towed straight from the crash site.

I did call HBC, they said it was in a storage compound, if I want any bits from it i need a letter from the insurance company agreeing to what I can take. See what my Monday morning call brings

id be kicking up a hell of a fuss and demand it back on your drive untill it sorted as you can still ask for it back as part of the payout. id really make them jump thru hoops

They have now offered £6000. Certainly a big improvement. But now I have proof of Craig's sale. So going to email them that, see If I can do a deal inc. the salvage :).
