In my frenzy to remove the headunit I have made a bit of a mess of the centre console, some of the rubber has peeled off and I'm probably going to replace it, but I'd like to paint it body colour as I think this looks ok and even if I decide I dont like it its only gonna cost £15 to paint and I'll get a new one anyway.
I know some of you have done this already and I'm wondering do you strip the rubber off and take it back to the plastic. If so whats the best way to do this as I cant spray it as is because the damage would show through, or can this only be done with an undamaged centre console?

I have heard that Oven cleaner stuff gets it off, fairing that maybe a shot with nitromorse to pull it off if you dont leave it on too long... or get your fingers covered in it and start mashing it off that way....
I wonder if a jet wash could be used though if high powered enough....

Should shift it to be honest as the rubber is quite fragile and its something i wanna do and paint up in a nice dark grey or black at some point

I have the best method - you take the Coupe into the Fiat dealer for a clutch and big (albeit not cambelt) service - they are so incompetent, take so long and are generally so rubbish that after the shouting and threats have died down, they end up repainting the centre console for free as some sort of compensation

Nice pics Bilbo, however not too keen to have mine painted as I find the buttons stand out too much. However it does look stylish
