Is it worth getting a AA or ARC inspection prior to purchase would it be a waste of time - what do you think?
I suppose ideal would be getting a specialist garage to check it out but getting a quick apointment might be difficult. Anyone got any experience?

My first coupe was inspected by L&M as the seller lived nearby and was happy to take it in for me. Cost me around £60 for a good mechanical look over and report

Yeah definitely get it HPI'd as well. You could also try Torque Italia (Barbz) - He's in Croydon - Probably the nearest specialist to Sevenoaks.
I'm relatively nearby (Hither Green) and happy to give you a hand looking. Drop me a PM if you like.

RAC/AA inspections are a COMPLETE waste of money. the amount of cars ive had it that have had these, and i find sh1t loads that the AA man missed (couldnt even pick up cracked brake lines). they are great for a ford fiesta, not so great for other cars. get a specialist to look at it.

Im with Rog on this one - only good thing with AA is the HPI and mileage check but its the insurance that seems to be king just in case you end up with a 'donkey'.
Get one of the longer termers or have a word with one of the specialist to org a once over, the long termer will probably be able to point you in any direct interms of driving feel and faults but that will by no means give you an indication of mechancial condition that a specialist would.
