Someone mentioned that you can use Seat Cupra R rear calipers along with 16VT front discs. Of course you would need brackets for the calipers, but they're wide enough to accomodate ventilated discs.

Under heavy braking, there is so little weight over the rear wheels that I wouldn't be sure that you gain any benefit.
Have you seen a problem with the rear brakes? Perhaps it's a purely a cosmetic exercise?

i use a rear big brake kit, using same calliper, brackets and 285mm discs. cost to greece for new brembo drilled discs+brackets+screws and all of needed stuff,190 gbp. fits easily by ourselves, not a noticable difference to braking, but still eyecathcing, compared to the "baby"251mm oe fiat discs.

does uprating the rear brakes upset the brake bias ?
I have a spare used set of front 20VT Brembo discs which are the stock 305 mm items. Can I have them lathe down to , say 280 mm , and fit them at the rears with a suitable bracket for the stock rear calipers ?
Thanks.

the tarox kit does give a noticeable difference to rear brake performance. available from www.gazzella.cc in the UK or via barbs at TI.

It sure does Rog although its hard work convincing people on here, I've had the Tarox kit on for 7 months now and combined with the pagid front discs and pads gives a fantastic braking performance increase over standard.
Pistole, The standard rear caliper will only fit a 12mm wide disc so you wouldnt fit the 20vt discs in it. It was me that was looking into fitting a set of Cupra R rear calipers and using the 16vt front discs on the rear. I didn't do the conversion when I found tarox did a kit for the rear.

basically , if I read it correctly , with the Tar-ox rear brake kit , you get the disc and a bracket.
they don't even give you an upgraded caliper , you use your stock caliper.
if that is the case , wouldn't it be easier and far far cheaper to fashion your own bracket and get some larger discs to fit ?

hi Jimbo,
thanks alot for your input here.
why do you say that there is an issue of warping for 300 mm solid discs , thus requiring the separate bell setup ?
I thought that the bell-setup is meant to reduce unsprung weight (ie , the bell is alloy).
Thanks.

I dont know the exact science behind it pistole but if you have a disc made out of a single piece of metal 300mm diameter, its only the outside 5cm of the disc that will heat up and cool down all the time as the brakes work but its still part of the one piece of metal that isnt heating or expanding in the centre of the disc, now because the disc is only relatively thin at 12mm the chances are the metal will warp out of shape. The alloy belled discs are a 2 piece unit so the outer friction surface disc can move indipendantly from the fixed centre bell as it expands with heat so its less prone to warping. Being light is also a bonus

I must admit that the conversion would be mainly to do with styling rather than performance but obviously the performance gains would be appreciated. Basically I'm trying to see if it's worth me buying the 3G rear breaks from the Group Buy (as well as the fronts). I looked at the std rear discs and they're just not noticeable (I've been unsuccessful getting a picture of the 3G rear discs fitted) and I'm thinking would I be better off saving the money form the rear disc group buy and putting it towards a conversion at a later time . But after seeing the pictures on the Tar-ox rear discs they're not going to match the 3G front discs . Before you all say I'm being pedantic IMO little details like that make all the difference when it comes to styling.

I fitted a set of EBC turbogrooved discs to the rear along with uprated pads.
Look stunning.
As Rog said, I wouldn't bother too much with rear as does FFUK all and can even cause you to loose control...
Much better to spend £££ on the front!
