Now that the weather is getting slightly warmer tongue ,I was thinking of rigging up an IC spray for my coop. I`ve seen the switch for one on a Scooby that I used to get in for MOT`s but I never tried it rolleyes . I realise that the Scooby has it`s standard IC in a different position to the Coop but I was wondering how they operate? When you press the switch for example does it just give the IC a one hit misting or does it start a regular pulse spray?

I know I would probably get better results by going the FMIC route but i`m not really wanting to start going down that road (yet! wink ) so would there be any benefit in trying this out or would it just be a waste of time?

Depending on how happy you are with rigging this stuff you can switch based on:

1) IC temperature/Charge temperature
2) Air flow/Injector duty cycle
3) Boost level
4) Throttle position

Obviously for 1) and 2) you need electronics - 3), 4) you can use mechanical switching.

Theoretically I think a combination of 1) and 2) is best so that the spray only comes on when the IC is hot and you are booting it. If its clever it will have some control over how long the spray continues after the event or even anticipate when the IC is about to get hot.

Alternatively - there's always Aquamist...

ps) There's one controller I'm planning to use (but haven't actually tried it yet - so can't vouch for it):

IC spray controller

Costs about £45 for the controller.

Just make one cost you about £15 most parts come from garden center all you need is some hosing some irrigation misters, a t piece joiner and a non return valve, connect it to your rear wiper spray, but block the actual end so it doesnt come out of the rear wiper spray and hay presto intercooler spray. This is what i have done and i know a few other with same sort of system it works well especaily if you use methenol in the same tank. Hope this helps

Cheers folks laugh . I`m not really looking to go down the whole tuning route just now and so i`m just wanting to lower the stress to the engine in this warmer weather. Think i`ll get a shopping list ready laugh .

Isn't methanol + alloy a bad idea? Wont it eat away at your 'relatively' delicate intercooler?

I was thinking of just using the water from my screenwash reservoir as it hardly ever gets a chance to get low. I don`t imagine the screenwash additive would be flammable when its diluted either,so i`ll be safe enough just using that(hopefully it`s ok with the alloy too confused ). I`m gonna see if I can get a couple of nozzles to spray into the IC ducting and with the airflow through my bumper it should give maximum surface coverage cool . What would give me the best results,a fine mist or a spray of larger droplets?

Fine spray - you want the water to evaporate fully - makes it up to 50% more efficient IIRC

Finer mist spray is better as long as there is enough force behind it so it doesn't just get blown out of the intercoolers path
Most screenwash WILL corrode aluminium because it uses either methylated spirits or iso-propanol/methanol.

Cheers
John

Thanks again folks laugh . Think i'll need to fit in a separate resevoir then to avoid the corrosion issues shocked .
