I think it'll cost about £2-300 to get it fitted as I looked into it previously, but it be honest, you have to keep it for a number of years to get your money back from your insurance as the savings aren't that great. But I guess it all depends on your age, location, NCB etc etc also?!

Think it is cat 2 standard, I don't think cat 1's were ever fitted as the norm.

I installed a Clifford, Thatcham category 1 to mine, but my original alarm was very tempermental and I only had one knackered fob for it, so I believed it was worth my while. If you are confident with wiring it's not too difficult, and will save £100 on a new alarm/immobiliser. smile

The only problem with self fit is it wont be insurance approved as they need to be installed by a registered fitter don't they?

I think you get a certificate when it's properly installed that the insurance company can ask for if they want to.

the coupe has a cat 2 alarm + cat 1 immobiliser, your best off just getting a 2 - 1 upgrade alarm, as dual immobilisers will cause problems frown . i just had a cobra 2-1 fitted, inc alarm and removal of old alarm for £225 (old alram playing up) didnt give me any extra discount on my insurance, but i get better features, and some insurance companies wont even touch you unless its got a cat 1, so you may save money that way! smile

Or you need a friend who is an auto-electrician who'll give you a certificate for £10. wink

Suppose it depends on whether your coop has the standard alarm fitted in the first place - mine didn't. As soon as I found out, I had an Autowatch Cat 1 Alarm / Immobiliser fitted for £250 all in.

Didn't get a discount but do have peace of mind. smile

No it isn't really woth it unless it is for peace of mind.

A cat 2 immobiliser has to be passive arming and has to immboilise at least 2 circuits, which the coop has as standard.

A cat 1 system is identical to a cat 2 system but is backed up by an alarm.

As ninja suggested, all you need to do is buy a 2-1 alarm, which should be cheaper than the full system.
