Changing my manifold when it arrives but i was thinking is there a lower temp thermostat available anywhere to lower the running temp of the engine a little?

Thought i may as well do it now as the coolant is going to be drained..

Not that I know of, why is it you want one; for track days or do you have lots of mods?!

I didn't think it was required really, but if your standard thermostat is more than a couple of years old, it's probably worth changing anyway as they don't tend to last that long.

What are you ordinary temps currently and how long does the car take to warm up?

Cheers,

Mark

You dont want it running much less than 80' to be honest and thats the normal running temp the standard thermostat keeps the engine at.

Why do you want it to run cooler ?

Just thought that if the car was cooler then it would help it all a little but if the standard one opens at 80 degrees then thats kewl. It gets a little hot in traffic mark_k these are the engine mods ive got:-

· Hks ssq dump valve
· Samco boost hose kit
· ramair induction kit
· Fse power boost valve
. Dastek ECU
· Unichip mapped to a novitec
· Pace front mount intercooler
· Garret gt28r turbo
· Aquamist 2d water injection system
. Aquamist DDS3 controller
· 6 paddle clutch
· Balanced flywheel
· Custom lonlife exhaust system
· Apexi avc-r controller

I think thats about it..

The normal running temp on a 20VT coupe is about 86 degrees or so and it should be up to that after about 10 minutes driving or about 5 or 6 miles. Some more info here

I would guess you're about 320bhp or so(?!) and I'm fairly sure others with similar spec to yours are using the standard OE thermostat with no temp problems/issues.

If you're worried about cooling temps whilst driving hard, you can get an uprated radiator made by Pro Alloy or Pace, but they are around £300 or so(I think).

As long as the fans kick in when they should and it warms up nice and quickly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. But if you're concerned, just buy a new thermostat for about £35 and a new expansion tank cap for about £6 or £9, but as far as I know, a different opening temp thermostat wouldn't be required.

Since the thermostat cannot be changed on its own (whole housing must be replaced) it wouldn't be an easy procedure either.

Thermostat isn't too difficult to change, infact the hardest part is getting the hose clips off !
2 bolts, 4 hose clips and a 19mm double depth socket for the temp sensor and the jobs done \:\)

What I meant was that it's surly not easy changing the thermostat inside the housing. Just replacing the whole unit is simple enough though.
