Does anyone have an Ipod-compatible headunit and if so how good is it? Where do you stash your Ipod Have had a go with a friends Dension Ipod/stereo add-on thingy (wires into the back of the stereo, wire is mainly hidden and your Ipod sits in a dock fixed at the side of the headunit) but the sound quality is greatly reduced, even with a £1500 setup So has anyone come up with a better idea that sounds good and doesn't leave wires hanging out and your Ipod flying around

I have an Alpine head unit that controls the Ipod. Ipod goes in the glove box, the extra unit goes under the pasenger seat with the cable run under the centre console, then back to the head unit. Spot on sound, Ipod is hidden and no wires!

I went down the Alpine 9850ri route.
No need for an additional box under the passenger seat, at the time it had one of the quickest iPod interfaces and enables me to cycle through the playlists/artists/songs via the headunit.
The iPod just sits in the glovebox, tucked out of the way.
Job done.

I've got a pioneer one in mine, put the box in the centre behind console and put the lead into the middle near the handbrake.

S.- Wish I had waited. The later Alpines give you a much better interface, meaning you can scan through your playlists much faster. Mines ok for stuff I've set up, but trying to find an individual song is a pain.

I have a Alpine 9835 with the additional box. It works brilliantly and play back is perfect.
Like Che the new alpine's seem to be much better with faster interface and without the need to spend an extra £60 for that box too!
Get and Alpine! (my alpine when set to amber and blue also matches the rest of the light colours in the coupe perfectly too)

Thankyou for all your answers - think I will be buying a new Ipod-compatible head unit and sticking the Ipod in the glovebox! Not so keen on Alpine though (I'm just a tad fussy ) so anyone have anything else that does the job and looks good?

Depends how long you plan on technology being around for I guess? I like to keep things simple. The simpler your signal path, the better your quality. If you think you might replace your ipod with something new within like 18 months, I'd just get a good quality head unit with a line level/aux input - and then just plug audio in to it.
Yeah, you'll have to use the device as the interface - but what the heck, you're probably used to the interface anyway if it's your day to day music centre!

The other option is to buy a USB HDD H/U like the pioneer 7900 (£200). You get slightly better sound quality as the digital to analogue conversion is done on the H/U apparently.
Also, you can buy a cheapish hdd and leave that in your glovebox instead of your ipod.
Just my 2p

Is there any way to connect an iPod to a standard Coupe Clarion headunit? (other than with an FM transmitter or a tape adapter) You could of course use an FM modulator which works far better than a transmitter.

I think I may have found the solution..... Harman/Kardon Drive + Play Its a transmitter, but uses an interface into the aerial lead, rather than simply broadcasting a weak FM signal. There's also an RCA connection option, but until I pull the head unit out, I can't work out if it'll connect. Drive + Play is £80 at Halfrauds but I got it brand new off Ebay for £25
