Timing belt last changed at 59k, now mileage is 100k, can someone help with recommended time to change it?
Also anyone know where to get new sump for 1995 16VT?

Yikes. I’d say you’re on borrowed time there. After the first replacement it’s recommended to get the belts changed about every 20-25k on the 16VT engines. At least that’s what I’ve read on here.

I think you're looking at the same as the original cambelt interval on the 20vt but I'd recommend getting the auxiliary belts replaced (or at least checked) after two or three years.

Thanks for the advice, I had some from the dealer which sounded really generous, viz. change every 72,000 or 5 years whichever is the sooner.

Sounds like I should have been on the next change of belts even.

Yes, as in make sure they change the aux belts and the balance shaft belt (and all tensioners) along with the timing belt.

10/10. Arnie Clark at Gorgie, going in beginning of the week. They made an effort to trace a sump, so for that they could be mentioned in despatches I reckon.
They probably tried Kenny Harrison Fiat at East Claremont, used to be a Lancia man, now converted, but I might check in the morning anyway as he has a pet supplier. Not sure how these suppliers work, maybe they only deal with their own favourite contact.

Not being done till Toosday, along with an engine clean/pullthrough and the long-awaited sump change! [They have actually got the sump off the disused engine now, it's just a matter of getting it to Arnie's from Broxburn, which I've offered to do, but they have insisted they'll do that \:\? ]
I'll let you know the sentence n/week.

Of all the Coupe engines, 20v can go longest with 36k, followed by 16v at 32k, then 20vt 28-32k, then 16vt at 24k due to balance belt.
When doing the 16vt belts, besides tensioners, also do the waterpump.
Remember, the more the car is revved, the less miles to change belts. Town car belts will need doing sooner then Motorway cars, due to stop and start, which wears belts quicker.
I know this has been discussed a million times, but its still relevant that cars are doing far to many miles between belt changes. Lancia specialists on the Integrale engine recommend 24k max for belts. Anything else, and you are taking a huge risk.

??? Where did this all come from

The 20VT is 72000 miles or 5/6 years. Same for 20V. It even says in the handbook. Still the same recommendation for the Stilo Abarth which has a similar configuration to the 20V, probably still to the Thesis 20VT.
The fact that specialists recommend lower is because the quality of job is slightly compromised by the in-situ mechanism of changing the belt, the age of the ancillary components, the original guide is slightly generous and the fact that many are tuned.
That wouldn't lower it to 28-32k more like 50-60k I would guess. The only belts to have gone earlier were probably either tensioned wrongly or taken out by an ancillary belt breaking.

The varying strategy of town driving etc. does make a difference but that is factored into the EITHER mileage OR duration requirement.
On 20Vts you should change all belts and tensioner and water pump as a matter of course.

i do indeed. there is no reason to change it earlier providing the previous belt change included the tensioner, idler and water pump.

However as john has stated its most common that the auxiliary belts fail and cause problems with the cambelt, aux belts should be checked in services, and may well need changing after just 15k due to light cracking appearing.

Remember the more you tune your car the quicker the belts wear. More power = faster acceleration and more load on the belt. c&B cams mean higher cam ramp rate which increases the load on the belt a lot. Higher rev limiter also increases the load etc. etc.
So a 350BHP car with C&B cams, a Squadra chip or Perfect Touch live map and a 7300rpm limiter should probably be looking at about 35k between belt changes.
400BHP probably equals more like 25k miles between changes.

If you do track days that also causes the belt to get very hot through continuous acceleration so again that will reduce the time between changes further.

Belts being done first thing in the morning, should I get them to do the water pump as well in the 16vt [100k now]?
It's basically a city car with the odd run to Derbyshire every couple of months or so, doesn't get tanked as still marking time until p.points reduce \:\(

mine was done at 54k and ive had the anxiliary belts and tensioner done at 86k ive just covered 91k and once i get to the big one or the money sooner im booking to see rog.

heard the most common problem for the timing belt going was the auxiliary belt snapping and taking the other with it!
