Has anyone on here fitted an aftermarket jobbie? Im looking at going for a Momo or Isotta wheel, but just wanted to check if;
- Anyone know of a good place to buy a boss kit? - Is it a specific kit for the coupe and/or wheel manufacturer (ie will a Sparco boss kit for a Coupe fit a Momo wheel etc...)?
Just sharpening up the interior and wanted something a lil' different to the LE wheel....
Cheers

I tend to agree. As a standard manufactured wheel the Coupe one looks in my opinion. That said, I don't believe this invalidates insurance, (as long as declared), and MOT should be fine too. You would need boss and wheel to fit the coupe. Usually the boss is the important part for fittment, and as long as compatible the wheel should then fit the relevant manufactured boss.

Bollocks to the airbag. Declared on my ins I've removed it, no prob. I've got the MOMO Millenium. Didn't like the silver metal showing though so trimmed it in the charcoal leather left over from my Daytona seats when had them done. Looks bloody smart (I wud say) Waited two months for a boss from MOMO and still they couldn't give me a date, so got one from (I'd hav to find my receipt). There was a black option or chrome (not available yet - when I ordered). Got the plastic though, and after some more leather trimming to make it match the bits I trimmed on the wheel and hide the plactic (took me a good half day) jobs a goodun

Yep, sure have ! Clicky This is my track day wheel (suede), but I also have a Momo Champion (leather) for every day .
I picked up an OMP boss from ebay ( Try here! ), which has the same fitment as Momo, and cheaper too. Only problem being that you don't get the right horn fitment ring with the boss, but these can be picked up elsewhere, and may even come with a steering wheel. (I also got both of my steering wheels on ebay, as they are a lot cheaper than buying new !)
You do lose your airbag system, but then mine was bust before I changed the wheel . This isn't a problem for insurance (I have declared the change of wheel to be on the safe side ), nor for an MoT, as airbags are not part of the checks. Considering the number of crashed Coupes I've seen on this forum where the airbag has failed to operate, you won't think about this too much....
I'd say go for it, but make sure you get something tasteful !
Phil

This place is supposed to sell the momo boss kit for roughly £40 which apparently has a little resiter that turns off the airbag light. Will be investing in one payday. Do'h.... Forgot to add the link.... Clickerty clicky

Never a big fan of airbags until some dizzy t**t drove into the front of me at 40mph! Rosie Now I wouldn't buy a car without one ! And yes the major shock to me was that the Coupe air bags actually worked But each to his own JOhn

Well on the 205GTI I bought recently, someone had fitted a truly nasty bright yellow leather steering wheel, and even though the 205 is only for the track, I bought an original GTI wheel from eBay to replace it. Hmm, thinking again.... It's a REALLY LOVELY wheel, in a VERY FETCHING shade of....let me see......BROOM YELLOW What am I bid from all you Broomers???

No, it is a flat wheel. I wouldn't recommend a dished one, as the wheel is already close enough as it is.

'im ruining the italian styled interior with a momo'
Well done mate. IMO it will ruin the lines and design of the interior.

I wouldn't do this to a Vauxhall Senator, let alone a coupe. Please sell your poor Coupe.

Agreed, well done you've just officially condemned the Fiat Coupe to Max Power barry boy status. At the same time wiping £000's off their value. WHY?????

Much appreciated people - thankyou one and all!
Certainly seems to be a touchy subject, but then i guess there are those who like to change things and those who dont.....

Some strong opinions on here this afternoon ! I always thought that the styling section was one that allowed people to share their alternative views of the Coupe in a friendly environment . I suppose your cars are all totally standard ..... If it makes you feel any better, I still have the standard wheel to put back on if I ever sell the car. In the meantime, I am more interested in keeping hold of the wheel when on track, so the Momo does me fine. The car is locked away in a garage for 6 days a week, so nobody other than me has to cope with the ruination of the interior styling. If you don't like my steering wheel, you certainly wouldn't like the stripped out rear seats, Sparco race seat and full harnesses . Everyone has a Coupe for different reaasons, and mine is to enjoy the performance on track as often as possible ! Phil

I quite like Phil's grippy little wheel, suits his built for a purpose 'trackday slag' very well. [first stone is hurled in Gringo's direction] Having had a non too pleasant experience with an airbag in a Lexus company car I once had (it went off whilst sat in a traffic jam), I have developed a fear of the things. My Coupe has the common garden Airbag fault and requires a new clock spring. With this in mind I am thinking of ditching the wheel and it's evil exploding bag for an aftermarket model. An all leather model like a Nardi wheel would suit the interior quite well IMHO No brash or shiny bling, just simple and understated. [several large rocks fly in the general direction of Gringo] Anyone who has had a drive in an Elise or VX220 can surely not fail to have noticed the benefits a small chunky wheel can offer? [Gringo runs from the angry fccuk masses as they prepare for his crucifixion]

I would like to add my opinion in that if someone wants to change their steering wheels for whatever reason and they like it then why not? If I seen the right one I would have no problem replacing the standard one. Ive never liked the position of the horn on the the Coupes wheel.
