Hi all, just after a little help with this one please.......my EVO (7 I think) original FMIC has been sitting on a cupboard for over a year now and I am finally getting round to fitting it :/, I didn't plan on Barbz leaving so now I have to try and fit it myslef (should have taken out some sort of loss of Barbz insurance :D). Barbz kindly arranged for 3 metal pipes to be made up for me just before he left and has e-mailed me the list of Samco hoses I need (4 I think).......I will also need to cut off one of the 2 end pipes from the fmic and turn it to face he car. Can somebody with a Barbz fitted Evo fmic plse advise what else I might need some pics of the fmic in place would be extremely helpful! And any advice about fitting is appreciate, is it a hard job? Cheers John

have you got all the bits yet? I can try and explain with pics - but you could always pop over and see mine instead + number up the hoses and connectors you have from inlet to outlet? You'll need to mount the cooler like this (can be done easily with cable ties): http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a198/suba11/coopICinstal.jpgThen hack the undertray to enable you to route the outlet (nearside) back on itself, and take a stanley knife to the inside of the bumper to get it back on when you're done. As long as you have all the right bits it should take a few hours.

I would recommend a jig-saw for cutting the tray and (most of) the bumper, makes very light work of it - esp the undertray - but the fumes from the tray are quite evil - so take ensure decent ventilation.

I love you guys Thanks Nobby that would be great! Suba it sounds like most of the work is down to cutting the bumper and undertray? Thank you for the offer I might just take you up on that, I have the metal pipe work (3 pieces) and the samco hoses should be with me soon. I have your number from around a year ago so not sure if its the same, i'll pm you when the samco hoses arrive, thanks! Oh is there anything else I need apart from the hoses and cable ties? MCMike thanks for the advice, I fear my bumper may be a lil more troublesome its a 360 fibre glass jobby, i'll remember to watch out for the fumes when cutting the tray! Cheers John

No problem mate, I have the part numbers for the samco hoses which i'll pm you along with a website you can order from. Barbz got some metal pipes made up for me which I should be able to sort out and possibly send to you if you want as the company is local to me.
Cheers John

Well, Barbz used metal cables on his coop to hold the fmic to the frame, so I reckon its safe I though the tricky bits with the evo were: 1) Welding the exit nozzle so that it points towards the intake - you would need a alu welder or might try doing something clever with epoxy (if you can tack together an airbus with it...) 2) Cutting the right-hand radiator support so that you can route the pipe out to the intake - would need a good bit of angle grinding I spose Also I think if you angle the exit nozzle 45% upwards you can get it to run straight to the intake with no (or very shallow) bends - which would save a couple of right angles. You should check, but the space between your radiator (assuming its standard) and the right hand support will not fit a 2.5'' pipe

I depends on how wide your FMIC is, I didn't have to cut mine (although I have the slightly smaller 008C model - and IIRC suba has the 008) FrontSide Mounts underneath Front finished My car front finishedThe first 4 photos are from mburns120 ex coupe. The last one is of mine.

Oh and here is the diagram of my parts needed to install my FMIC, I used all SAMCO hoses, but have since substituted lots of the straight bits for solid pipes (so they don't bulge Nice little diagram Chris

lol - and a cc as well!
it looks like the exit pipe is going *under* the radiator support, is that right?
That would mean much less cutting but more convoluted path

True to your word, thanks Nobby for posting those pics! As Barbz got those metal pipes made up for me before he left and has given me part numbers for the samco hoses I need im gonna follow his route, where it will take me I don't know! mines an orginal Evo fmic im sure the Anew ones are duplicates so probably the same size fingers crossed no cutting of rad mounts needed. Nobby mate did you cut the nozzle on the right of your fmic and turn it 45degs to face the car? Thanks again. Cheers John

No, i didn't cut anything on the FMIC. The entry/exit pipes are both straight out (slightly angled down). Both entry and exit go under the radiator support bracket - so no cutting required, appart from some to the ducts for the oil cooler side. Other side duct was removed. My FMIC is also a little lower. I had to move it a little lower to accomodate my chargecooler prerad. I also thought that there would be little point in getting it higher if its hidden behind the bumper anyway. Has nobody notived the little fiat badge I sprayed on the FMIC...

Thanks Nobby mate, I guess the pipe work im getting means that I have to cut my nozzle (ouch!) it must be a slightly different route to your pipe work. Suba im guessing you didn't do any painful nozzle cutting either? Cheers John PS i'll look at the pics now for the Fiat badge!

The model numbers are different - 008c and 008c1, but that's spot on - if you look back to my pic you can see where the rad supports had to be angle ground to fit the width of the bigger version - look for the black bar above the rad about 2 cms thick (square section) which extends along and then down either side - most ICs can fit inbetween the side sections - mine was too big. if you do have to do some grinding dont worry - it's a 10 second job as long as you have access to an angle grinder. I did not have to alter the outlet in any way, and metal cable ties are fine to hold it in place - I was going to make up some proper brackets, but never had any bother with the ties so left it as it is. And BTW my number is still the same.

You can easily buy some metal right angle lengths from hardware shops. It doesn't need to be ridiculously strong, just hold it in place.
