Been looking to purchase a coupe for sometime now and with my day to day car now paid off I’m in a position to make a move.

I've been blinkered and only really considered ownership of a 20VT, but while browsing the coupes for sale section (which seems to be all the time) i saw a 16VT that has tickled my fancy.

I suppose my question is other then slightly more power (the 16VT in question has been tuned) is there really any other major difference?? An ego boost when you drive past a 16VT in your 20VT does not count! .

Hi mate, I have been running a 16VT for over two years now and love it. Can’t fault the car and you still get that lovely push into the back of your seat when the turbo kicks in, which I believe is more aggressive than the 20VT, which is smoother. A little bit of me did regret not getting the 20VT at first (power envy) but my car was a really nice example that couldn’t be passed up. I have since added 20VT alloys because I personally think they look nicer.

They are both great engines (cars pretty much the same) so if you weren’t too fussed with the power thing I would just try and get the best example you can.

Just my 2 pence worth but I am fairly sure you will love whatever you end up with.

Best advice would be to get the best car available with your budget, regardless of 16vt/20vt.

History, condition, mileage, etc is more important.

BTW - The overall performance is not that different between them! But we'd all love a late LE, preferably in Red!

I used to have a 16VT before I bought my current 20VT.I would say the main differences are:
1.The turbo on the 16VT has more lag, comes in a little later and gives you a bigger "kick". The 20VT has a better spread of power but in term of overtaking ability, there's nothing in it.
2.The 20VT is more economical; 30mpg against 25mpg for the 16VT
3.The 20VT has much nicer alloys
4.The ventilation system is a little better on the later cars

That's it really. A good 16VT is a better buy than a mediocre 20VT

I'd want a 20vt myself but thats just me, I LOVE the noise that the extra cylnder gives. IF you can afford a decent 20vt then get one, otherwise get a good 16vt, like others have said its better to get a good example than a bad one.

16vt's are much rarer! I actually think they are more rare than LE's!
