Hi all,I have read a few posts here and there where people refer to unlesded fuel. I just fill up with the standard unleaded!! Should I start to use the premium?? Is is better for the car / performance? Any answers appreciated thanks!

If I used normal unleaded with my Gtech 2 it would det, so it does for me!

I was amazed at even the difference between the 3 main premium unleaded fuels. Tesco 99 and BP Ultimate were great, but when I filled up with V-Power for the first time as soon as I started the engine I could feel it was smoother and quieter, then when I put my foot down it was SO much more lively. Even other people who have been in my coupe after other coupes have commented on how smooth it runs, like there is not much midrange sound in the engine noise. other 20vt engines go RRRRRAAAAAAAAR, mine goes WWWWWWWWWVVVVV

V-Power is Shell's premium fuel, less than £1 per litre around here now too

It makes a difference. Your ECU is adaptive, so it gets used to whatever you throw at it. Mine runs like a DOG on standard 95, better on 99, and best on VPower.

A friend of mine owns an Esso garage and asked me to put huis Super 97 to the test. I reported back that it sucked.

If you want the performance and smoothness fits of V-Power et al. but don't want to pay the extra every time, then here's a tip:

Brim your tank from empty and fill to the brim with V-Power. When your tank gets to half empty (or half full ), fill up on the normal 95RON stuff. When your tank gets to half empty again, full up with V-Power. Then alternate between the two.

You'll find that you still get the benefits of the better stuff, but don't get stung as bad at the till each time.

had to put BP ultimate in mine earlier this week and was shocked how dull it made the coupe feel!
just filled up with v-power now but mine likes tesco 99ron best.

I have to agree, I filled up with V-Power for the first time a few days ago.

£0.99/l and so far I have only done about 20 miles, but the Coop feels likfe a different animal!

Only ever used Shell fuels. Optimax then V-Power. Would never use anything else. If it's good enough for the Scuderia the it's good enough for me!

empty yer tank. fill up with v-power and then disconnect the batt for an hour. i did that when my old batt gave up and its ran a lot smoother since.

There would be a lot of angry people waiting in line for fuel after an hour had passed

i guess there wouldnt be much difference on a 20v non turbo - just got an induction kit and a stainless exhaust on it!!

Well after a few days of running the Total excellum I must admit there is a difference!! However a lot of that difference is in the cost £1.02 a litre grrrrrr,I think I will alternate between normal and excellum every week!!

the octane in fuel lowers the explosiveness of the fuel, so that you dont get pre detonation (pinking), the higher the octane the less likely you are to get pre detonation, so it can make your car a lot more efficient, especially on tuned cars

I only put that Tesco high octane junk in once. Won't be doing it again.

V Power's in a different league...

usually run mine on tesco 99 as its only down the road whereas nearest shell garage is 15 miles away. BP is nearish too, but im not that keen, especially as its 5p a litre dearer

I put 99 octane in my Fiat and it turned into a snarling beast!











Then it ate my wallet.

Dont ever use TEXACO 97oct, 107.9p/l and it was awful!
V-power or tesco 99 @ 96.9p/l all the way
