I am going to have to remove my centre console to fix the switches, so might use this opportunity to paint the centre console in Steel Grey.

What are peoples thoughts on this mod?

I can't tell you what it would look like in a coupe, I did it in my bravo with the centre console, dial surround and heater vent.

I liked it at first but then it got a bit overpowering on the eyes and painted them piano (gloss) black, much more classy to look at imo.

A friend of mine has done this on a portofino coupe - looks very good IMO.

Highwayman did his and it looks great IMO.

I think most coop consoles would look good silver, but I'm not too sure about body coloured on some. Sprint Blue, Broom Yellow and the brighter reds would look cack.

F****** b****** thing...

Carbon is the only thing I'd change it to, would be annoying in any other colour IMO.

I am thinking steel grey as it matches my car. Having seen that picture (thanks Trappy) I think it will look even better when it matches the rest of my silver dash!

Decision made!

i tried to de-gunk mine and made a complete mess of it, so when i had my sills painted i took the oppurtunity to colour code it

and personally i think it looks

i think it would look completely out of place if it wasnt for the colour coded dash strip tho, but together it kinda compliments it!

i will post some pics when i get home

doing this can be a nightmare! did mine painted it, then had loads of problems trying to get the lacquer to stop bluming (going hazzy). so i paid a pro to finish the lacquer, look amazing when he had done, and he said to me that he was surprised the paint underneath had not lifted up. one week later my lacquer looks like the inside of a areo.
So be prpeaired for some setbacks

@ Madbloke100

I guess the pro didn't prep it properly either?

Any advice on how best to make this work?

(Perhaps a carbon fibre look sticker might be the best option \:\? )

How did the guy get brushed chrome? (first picture) Surely thats not just a sticker (ie wood grain effect) or paint effect.

What about the trouble that MadBloke100 had?

Do you have to strip the rubberised finish off first, if so, what is the best method to get this off?

I can confirm the price over the weekend!!

You can do 2 things:

1. rub all the rubber coating off and plastic primer

2. key the rubber enough and use plastic primer as undercoat/sealer and rub down. The add a further coat of plastic primer

Then what ever color you like plus a clear coat on top....

We use a waterbased spraying system now and have a low bake oven.
