yet another update...

holds boost fine, what I don't like is that it's not so sharp as it was with the hybrid boost controler...
However, that must be down to the base pressure map which needs a bit of tweeking. I think that I should be tuning it for more than 1.0bar at 2.5K...
Will try again

dink,

with my clutch slipping at 4K revs, its difficult to say!
Looks like it is, but I need to play a bit more.
Q: do you use a tuned eprom different to the one you send me?
The one you gave me only boosts up to 1.1bar @2.8-3.2K!
I have a feeling that I should pump up the values to 1.35bar from 1200revs all the way to 6000 in order to get the right feel!

Don't get me wrong, it keeps the boost you specify v.well, it just doesnt' boost v. aggressively at low revs (which if you think carefully, it's a good thing for your wheelspin...)
I've only tested it with the stock chip and the "mild" one from JMA, not used the EVOCARs on it yet. Will be offline for a day or two and will report on Wed/Thu when I get all my chips on it wink

yet another update

tried a modified EVOCARs chip with baseboost reaching 1.2bar@2K, 1.3bar@2.3K and 1.35bar@3.2K and I really like it laugh Feels as good as my hybrid boost controler was wink

So the verdict is to pump up the baseboost map and be done with it!

Sounds good Vas,

How much rpm does it make your turbo spool-up faster compared with the bosch ebv?

I know i'm hitting 1 bar of boost @ 2600rpm with this ebv, on a stock chip that is.

dink,

bosch ebv was dead when I removed it and fitted a hybrid boost controller (electronic but not fancy with graphics et al)
So it's impossible to say. But at least I now have the security I get from the ebv plus the punch I was getting from the electronic controller wink

I owe you another one!

cheers

Hi guys smile !

I know this is an old thread. I just need to know if everything has worked out fine for you Vas?

Dink: do you think the GM part works on the 20VT as well?

Freddan,

all is fine with it. Hasn't caused any problems.
Engine is still in bits, but should be together and running sometime next week. I'd say go for it wink

If only we could find wastegates that could operate a larger range of boost...

So you've had it on your car running?
Just replaced the std EBV? Did you get the same boost?
I tried an Audi EBV but I saw boost drop from 1.4 to 1bar max. frown Stable though.

Per,

I've replaced one of the Saint's EBC with the EBV that dink suggested and I can tell you that I do get the boost I setup my ECU wink
Only problem is that if I want a very low boost (as in the program I burnt for my running in of the new engine) the EBV opens, but the retaining spring on the activator is pretentioned and wont open before 0.6+
That's my only problem now

cheers

V.

I have used mine for a while now and it doesn't work that well frown
I used it during the RR session, see link: GM EBV vs. Armval PRV
The GM EBV is much faster in the beginning (compared with Armval PRV) but the ECU adjustment is too slow (or the EBV doesn't react quick enough), so I get a roller coaster curve. The PRV holds the boost pretty nice smile

Has anyone else felt this behaviour?

Hello Freddan,

You should compare the stock EBV to the GM one, this will give a better picture of which one is better. Of course the PRV will hold more boost as it's fixed over the entire rev range.!

I presume the armval PRV is on of the bleed type, no way the solenoid can be faster than a ball & spring PRV.

Here you can see the difference between Pierburg EBV, GM EBV and Armval PRV:
Boost comparison
The Pierburg is tested with a Gtec 1.
GM EBV and Armval PRV is tested with Gtec2.

Yes you still have the safety features with GM EBV.

This must be what JohnS, Paddy etc. are using?
Is there a better/cheaper place to get it?

Any idea how the Perrin would compare against these?
