i will be shooting up from southampton to manchester next wednesday to take a look at his car, my question is other than the comp tester, spark plug socket, extention, and snap-on 1/2" drive ratchet.....what else will i need to gain access to the plugs, looks like the is a spark plug cover to remove... is this removed with hex keys or sockets/ring spanner? i want to travel light, so i want to take just the bare essentials for the comp test. cheers guys, if any one has seen the car, feel free to comment on it within this thread. Btw, you can't comment on your own car Blackie!! LOL

As you say you will need a ratchet and extension and whatever size socket fits the plugs (cant remember the size sorry) you will need a torx set to remove the plug cover and to remove the coil packs. (again, cant remember the size) Southampton to Wigan is quite a trip though. Why not get Blackie to do the compression test. What makes you want to do a compression test anyway, or is that just one of the checks on your list Timing belts will want doing too unless I misread his post, you need to budget 500 quid for that.

I thought it was a Ribe bit? I guess you can use Torx driver though.
You'll need a hex key to get the coils off. They should be Ribe headed screws as well...they are on my Coupe anyway. A 1/2 drive ratchet seems a bit excessive for removing/fitting sparkplugs. John

I carnt see how this car could disapoint, the money he's spent with me alone looking after it rather than repairing it supports that. I'd be confident to say its a good one, he's certainly a particular and fussy bugger. (but an ace customer )
