Hi all, i fitted my sip and fmic last night. I am getting the same boost as with standard intercooler so pleased with my intercooler, I know most intercoolers you need to up the boost to account for the longer piping, so the boost at the manifold is the same.
But since fitting it all on low boost (0.3- 0.4bar) and i lift off i get a flutter from the air filter aswell as the dump from my hks. When on full boost (0.9bar) i don't get it. Is this a normal sound?

I have also noticed the car pulls smoother and i don't get the same kick as before which i thought would be the other way round, Is it normal to get smoother power. The car doesn't seem any faster \:\(

I will be fitting a gtec not sure with one will be best gtec1 or gtec 2 and a rr with fueling checking. Next year i will get it live mapped but for now a gtec.
Thanks in advance for advise

Ash

The power will be smoother because your filling the fmic, which takes longer IIRC.

Wow ross that was fast, yeh that could be why thanks, it boosts at the same rpm as before though(3100rpm). Have you noticed any other noises from yours, eg fluttering

They sip's do tend to have certain pigeon-like quality it has to be said. What intercooler is it?

I do get fluttering when poodling about. The reason its the same spool up, is because although u've fitted the FMIC which has more piping and is larger to fill, you've shortened the induction route, which compensates. ;\)

Thanks for the replys, if everyone else has the sound i won't worried, i like it anyway \:\)
I have a universal intercooler and sorted out the piping route with a big thanks from jamiepm for giving my the stainless steel piping.
The intecooler fits with out cutting anything and i can still use the bumper sponge too \:\) Its not a massive intercooler as i didn't want mega lag.
I went out for a good blast tonight got it nice and warm. When i stopped i felt the intercooler and pipes, they was freezing cold on the outlet so must be working reasonably well.

Do you know which gtec i should be runnning with my setup as running 0.9bar seems a waste of my turbo, its still pushing 0.8bar at redline even though its running only 0.9 bar max.

Thanks Ash

U could run the gtech 2, as u now have improved cooling. I think that would benefit you the most. Would also allow you to run around 1.3 bar boost. But best to get that checked on the rollers first.

I have emailed an rr near me so waiting for them to get back to me, then i will the gtec2 from grahaml and run about 1.1/1.2 bar and get it checked on the rollers as 1.3 bar would be too much i think without a proper live map.
I have read all the engine problems with running the higher boost on gtec2's and dont fancying putting another engine in as this one is a minter. i will hopefully feel more shove with gtec 2 and 1.2bar.

When its been on the rollers i will post the results and a pic of the print out, so all the graph lovers can tell me whats the best next step. \:\)

Thanks for your advise so far ross

I think 1.3 bar would be ok. It will be ok as long as the fuelling is there to match. I was running a gtech 2 on 1.45 bar and it was ok midrange and redline. ;\)

I know you have had alot of work done to your engine by barbz, even a rebuild after it went pop \:\)
I just don't want to risk running 1.3 bar without a live map then i know the fueling is bang on all the way through the rev range. But i will let you know how i get on should be within the next few weeks or so, even though crimbo is on its way \:\(

Ash_p - bring it along to the rolling road day at Powerstation. Check the rolling road/rwyb forum. Theres about 7 of us going for power runs with fuelling checks.
