How many seconds does it take in your coupe to achieve a speed of 60mph from the dead stop?

Great thread, but wouldn't different coupes have different 0-60mph after modifications.

My coupe does it in 6.1 seconds.

I think the record is currently held by Pinin_Prestatyn on here:

6.8 for the 16vt....no way!

It's certainly faster than that?

Well, 6.8 for a 16v Turbo shall only be possible if it is modified, otherwise its 7.5sec, not even 6.8 as per the Encyclopedia and 6.3sec for 20v Turbo

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Coup%C3%A9

But i think most of the coupes are modified and they would bring different 0-60mph, if fccukers wants to share it.

According to Car mag the stats are as follows (standard cars)

16vt 0-60mph 7.3 secs
20vt 0-60mph 6.5secs

Some mags quote slightly different figures but those stated above are more or less spot on!

Utter bollocks I reckon! I've only got an air filter and cat back exhaust with 14psi overboost and after a small drag race with my mate in a 20vt we stayed dead level to 90mph and he has same mods as me!

He obviously didn't start very well then!!

I quite easily beat a 16vt with just a gtec2 fitted wink

its strange that after fitting a chip (not gtec1 or 2), intake, bigger exhaust, it has just quicker from 6.5sec (standard 20vt) to 6.1sec... shouldn't this be better ?

i managed to record 5.7 (best) in my old coop. that was before the turbo upgrade and fmic.

coupes have the right mix to be fast cars but thery suffer from loos of tracion as we all know! lol

a big power coop might not be quicker than a lesser powered coop to 60. the quater mile is a better judge of speed/time

Absolutely!!!

Being FWD hampers the coupe so a big BHP difference between two cars will not result in a walkover for the more powerful car until you start getting to the 70ish mark!

probably not.

Take a standard 20vt and run it to 60, lets say it does 6.5 every single time without fail.
Then take a 400bhp coupe and run it to 60, using the same transmission, tyres, suspension and assume it weighs the same. of course it will be quicker to 60, but probably not by much, it wont be noticeably quicker until higher speeds where the power and torque can keep accelerating the car past the capabilities of a standard engine.

I think lap times, 0-100-0 and top speed are good measures of a cars potential, especially heavily tuned ones. remember, you get closer and closer to a 'race' engine when you start tuning it (like big turbos, low compression, lairy cams etc) and race engines are designed to spend most of their time at high revs, in their relatively narrow power bands, whereas road engines are designed to be user friendly and kind, and last as long as possible.
Just my general opinions, nothing specific to coupes.

Steve

I think 6.5s for the 20VT is conservative personally, lots of tests show it as faster.

Personally I couldn't care less what 0-60 times the Coupe 16/20vt can do. It's the midrange acceleration which is far more useful, IMO.

totally agree with the last comment, i had somebody come and view my car on saturday and they asked if i had tested to see what my 0-60 time was. it doesn't really interest me!

i also hate this about car programs (top gear/5th gear), they always state the 0-60 time, i would be much more interested in 60-100 time or quarter mile time.

I've seen it stated that the 0-60 is 6.0 secs. See here....

http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/pipexdsl/q/aqov49/automotive/fiatcoupeautocarroadtestindex.html

Page 3, near the bottom. That's why the 20VT had the fastest 0-60 crown for a FWD car for so long, it took the crown from the Rover Coupe 2.0 Turbo 'Tomcat'. Possibly the Maxda 3 MPS has taken this now as in some places it's stated that it's 5.9 sec's, others it's 6.1 secs.

Anyone know if the 20VT is still the quickest 0-60 FWD out there?!

Mark

Surely a 16vt with the same power output as a 20vt (breathing mods/more boost) will be alongside the 20vt much like mine IS!

I'll video it next time as we stayed level till 90mph no matter what others say/think.

Where are my 16vt owners for backup lol!

Bloody hell what engine does the GTA have in it to get those sort of figures as the 20vt?

The 3.2 Alfa V6 - considered by many to be one of the finest engines ever built - and made a mockery of the 220BHP max argument (see post from a while ago!)

That said, they are a little "headstrong" in the corners apparently. For headstrong read "greased up elephant on an ice-rink"

Autocar managed 6.0 so it is 6.0. All other mags quote from other sources in my experience.

20vT 0-60 examples I can think of from owners posts on here, with the power

220bhp Autocar- 6
257bhp Civic_Legend- 5.7
400bhp Nigel- low fives I think
420bhp Flea- 4.9

Basically unless you get some pretty slick tyres you won’t dip under 5. Anything over 400bhp with give the same 5 second time as you simply can’t put any more power through the front wheels without them slipping. A good general guide in my opinion would be every 20bhp past 220 will probably knock around a tenth off, up to 400bhp. The first 20-30bhp would give the single biggest drop (probably 2 tenths) as the uprated ECU overrides the boost rise cut-in allowing a fair bit more torque (no less than 70lbs/ft) in 1st and 2nd gears.

True enough the 0-60 times mean bugger all for a FWD car, but this is the subject of this thread

14psi is standard boost on a 20vT (maybe just under). What is the standard boost on a 16vT and what turbo do they have?
