My bodyshop guy who has done previous work on the Coupe has given me a quote for a full respray in any colour, which is too good to refuse.

The Coupe is "Moon Grey" at the moment, with Zender Front Bumper, and LE Skirts, full colour coded rear bumper. Body modifications are debadged bonnet and tail, smoothed in rear lights (so the seam is no longer visible). I'm running Dare v5's, and have the Coupeteile LED rear lights.

Bodywork is pretty much mint condition. But because of this offer, I'm looking closer at taking him up on it.

I'm considering Fiat Black (Uno Turbo colour), which was one of the darkest/purest blacks I'd seen on car. Unless anyone else can advise an even purer black. When the UT was polished and cleaned the black was so deep, it would look like glass. This is the effect I'd like from the Coupe.

I'm also considering removing the petrol filler cap, and having a flush aero cap fitted instead. Smoothed and set properly, so that the curved rear flank isn't interrupted by the standard filler cap.

Clearly, it's my car and I can do whatever I decide is right for it. But opinions on the above would be welcomed, as some of this I'm not sure of.

Please see: this thread for pictures of how she looks at the moment. Please bare in mind the slope she's parked up on, pitches the rear up, so she looks higher than normal here.

As you say, it's up to you, but I think your coupé looks well nice as it is \:#

Be interesting to see that petrol cap though. (do you mean Audi TT style) \:\?

Thanks!

The other thing I didn't mention was that she's now garaged, and well protected, driven at weekends only, (I have the Bravo for the daily drive).

I guess I'm just "thinking aloud" on this. And, yes, similar to the Audi TT style cap. Although some may see this as sacriledge?...

Yes, I've been told both Merc and BMW black are very deep glossy colours. Although there's a little too much brown in the Merc black. Which you can't see, unless parked next to another black car.

Brown? \:o

I didn't know that. You learn something everyday. I spoke with an old paint bloke years ago who told me black was one of the hardest colours to match. Not sure if he was just joking, I doubt it, he was an old crusty. He was very set in his ways and had some strange ideas, like putting a freshly painted car outside in the rain to let the paint harden better.......... \:\?

That does sound a bit barking/fruitloop. But I'm not a paint sprayer, so maybe he was right?

With "black" they're are all different mixes for this colour. Ford use a lot of Brown in their black, BMW use blue, Fiat tend to add a metallic edge, or equally use blue.
I guess I should talk to my bodyshop mate, and see which blacks he thinks are the trueist blacks.

And, absolutely, black is a horrible colour to match. In my teens I had a Black Fiat 127, which needed some sanding and filler over a particularly bad rust patch. All prepared and fillered, I bought "Fiat black" from Halfords, a rattle can job. The black out of the can was visibly more blue than the Fiat 127 black, which appeared more brown against the new paint. Didn't matter, car was scrapped after a month or so more. (Daylight through the floor pan...).

I think going for one of the more 'concept' colours would be cool. Those sort of mute shades could make the coupe look like its not even been released yet. These two sorts of things.....

Well, I did consider a Pearl Cream, but I'm pretty much sold on Black. Being relatively old skool, for me Black makes any car look 100 times nicer. So for the Coupe Black is sex in car form.

I like that the colour of that alfa. Looks really smart.

I do like black cars also, 2 cars I've owned in the past have been black. I think black really suits the coupe as well (the nero black mentioned does look really nice).

As for other colours...

I don't think everyone will agree with me but I reckon the coupe resprayed in electric orange that they use on the focus st would look awesome, along with some anthrice coloured alloys.

my car was nero black, which is basically flat black thats had lots of layers and flattened back to a thinish layer to get that deep smooth appearance.

I think the alfa/ferrari nero black is the same colour code its just the way it is used that gives it the finish..

The more layers and flattening the less orange peel...which seems to spoil the finish on some paint jobs these days..

If you want a true black tell your bodyshop guy to go for a straight black...he should know what you are talking about..

Almost all new cars have orange peel including coops as they are sprayed directly onto metal..

Just ask the bodyshop owners to show you their colour chips. They usually have them from different makes of paint and manufacturers so you can choose your favourite.
Specialists like House of Colour and Alsa Corp can mix and match to your requirements.

This is how it should have come out of Torino!

My old Honda civic coupe had a very nice metallic black with red metal in it so would really sparkle in the sun (not glitter chav style)

If I was paying for a new colour I personally would want more than a plain black, every car seems to be black or silver these days. Have a look at House of Kolor as has been said \:\)

Thanks for the links Markus: clicky <--- that's the sort of look I'm aiming for. An almost glass like appearance. The only differences will be my smoothed in rear lights, and the wing mirrors will be black too.

I guess it's personal taste. To get a true straight black car is quite rare, and for me it's that true deep glass-like black which I find looks the best on any car.

Thanks, Cheesy.

It's still all idea's at the moment. The bodyshop chap has become a friend as he's done a few jobs for me, family and friends. He's also said that it's one of his favourite cars, (who can blame him? ;)).

I've ended up with some spare cash (as a bonus), which I'm not going to save or take to the grave with me. And the possible paint job, is one of the options I'm looking at. I've also been looking at air-bag suspension, or engine performance work. But I can really only choose one of those three options....

we have also done a full respray in rosso red on a coop which we did the smoothed tail late surrounds!!

when my website is up and running you will be able to see some more pics of cars we have done..

Also try and take out the rear quarter glass as it will make it a better job...the rear windscreen seal comes out and then can be masked up...

Why not stick to a fiat colour:

Pic 1

Pic 2

I personally think a coop would look gorgeous in that colour (but then I would say that, thats my old car \:D \:P )

My Monaro is metallic black. I chose that because the only 3 colour options were very bright red, silver, or black, and:

- red is a red rag to a donut-eater \:P
- silver just made the car fade into insignificance

so black it was.

Now, I knew it was always going to look dirty within 5 mins of a wash, but the real trouble is, unless you polish it every time you wash it, it still looks cack. I've tried all sorts of shampoos and polishes, but even a good wash with Autoglym followed by a decent leathering (ooerr) still leaves drips and streaks which you can only get rid of with polish. And clearly, polishing it every time I wash it just isn't an option. So, something to bear in mind.

Also, Moonie is always a popular colour with the buyers - depends how long you intend to keep it. Have you thought about Moon Grey with more mica in it? Carl has suggested that for mine - going to try a test panel to see how it looks. Apparently some of them came out of the factory like that and it shows up more of the brown-ish shimmer on the paint.

(Oh, and the other downside of black is that if a pair of donut-eaters are about to finish a "frame", they'll be looking for a black to "pot"..... \:D )

What, the same as Tipoboy's (John) you mean? Yes, it looks absolutely lovely, saw that in the flesh before he exported it.
