hi
my turbo has been smoking for 2 weeks now, only when sat at lights for longer than a min! My friend as got a price on getting it reconditioned with uprated bearings ( 500 pound ) felt like crying when he told me. Does this sound about right ?
cheers

It depends what needs doing to it. You can get a new bearing or seals for £100 each, it might only need one of those two, or it might need both and more.

You need to get it removed and sent to a reputable turbo company, do it sooner rather than later to prevent any more wear on it \:\)

If you want a std turbo PM fastjjs, I think he does new turbos for that sort of price. You can also get a new GT28r for a little more money.

Personally I wouldn't pay that much for a recon.

You get what you pay for. There are cheap refurbo companies out there. But to fully overhaul a turbo takes a lot of work. I know the top companies throw all the parts away, crack test the housing and only use new parts. The cheaper companies recycle parts. I know which i would buy!!! And £500 is about right minimum.
