At this rate we'll be able to sing the whole song...yes its the end of my Coupe to °\(
Scary thing is its similar circumstances to the other post. Last week I was driving down a road with 3 lanes slow as the lights ahead were red, as I approach the junction lights turn green so I continue to cruise as I see a lorry pull up at the junction the other way to turn right across my path. He pauses at the junction and for some strange reason suddenly goes for it! Im forced to swerve left to avoid him and go straight into traffic lights. Now get this where he turned right there was NO RIGHT TURN!!! \:o My only bit of luck is there was a car full of PCSOs who were behind the lorry and saw him take the illegal turn. Police, ambulance and firebrigade all came within minutes, luckily I have walked away with just whiplash. I believe the other guy is being reported for driving without due care and attention.
I was already very shaken at the scene and I called my insurance company who said I might not be able to claim as I didn't hit the other vehicle!!! My heart dropped even lower in my stomach, the guy then said he'd confirm this with his supervisor and came back saying in these circumstances there is a chance I can claim! Should I have chosen to hit the lorry head on and risked both our lives??? Anyway the driver I think told police i was doing 80mph...if this was the case I think I would have gone threw the traffic lights and into the petrol stn on the corner of the road and maybe not got out of the car by myself, im so stressed and angry I wasn't even doing half that speed.
The car was taken away by the insurance company at the scene, the traffic light post cut right up the middle of the bonnet I can't see it being anything other than a right off.
As usual any help or advice on any aspect of this is very much appreciated, I guess I need it now more then ever.

Cheers
John

PS.
Insurance arranged a hire car and im waiting to find out whats happening with my claim.
Police, Firebrigade and especially the ambulance crew were great!

FACT - Coupe's are invisable to HGV's

Evidence - This post, and the other and I had a similar accident in my first coup about 4 years ago. I was doing about 60mph when one of those earth moving HGV pulled right and hit me side on, half the car on drivers side completely flat !

It's a bad state of affairs isn't it, when you avoid hitting someone in the wrong yet can't claim.

I've often wondered if I'd be able to make a split-second decision if say someone pulls across my path at a junction, and I choose to hit them (so they pay out) rather than avoid them possibly going into someone's parked car etc. (where I'd have to pay out).

I know that I tried to avoid the lorry that hit me the other week. It I had I would have ended up in the same post though, so at least now I know I have someone to claim again.

Sad to hear about your accident, but at least you have some very credible witnesses on your side.

If it helps any, I'm sure that any inspection of the vehicle and crash scene will result in a verdict that you were travelling at an appropriate speed, nowhere near that claimed by the lorry driver.

Sorry to hear about the crash, but glad you are not hurt.

Begs the question: If he thought you were travelling at anything like 80mph, why on earth did he make the move?

Glad you're ok, hope it get sorted soon. My sister got hit by a truck on th m/way earlier this year and all the accident reports are in her favour but it's rumbling on :-(

I have to say I just wouldn't believed this if I hadn't witnessed it, twice, this morning with my own eyes! \:o

Anyway, glad no-one was hurt and hope it all gets sorted out quickly, at least you have some decent witnesses on your side \:\)

Glad you are ok, sorry about the coupe. You may find the authorities claim for the traffic light just to make matters worse!
You should get legal advice via your insurance, if you don't it's worth looking at and don't underestimate whiplash. I was off work for nearly a year following a similar encounter with a Polish juggernaut on a narrow Cornish lane.

The insurance situation is ridiculous, if you damage your own car avoiding someone else being stupid, you are very often on your own. I really hope you get this sorted out, very lucky the PCSO's were there, (though a traffic cop would have been even better, never around when you need them \:D )

Thanks alot guys....I hope they don't claim for the traffic light it will be extra stress I really don't need.
N_Drinkwater mate good point and I'm sorry to hear about your sister's accident, it doesn't help when things drag on for so long!
Has anybody been in a similar situation where they have swerved to avoid one of lifes mysteries and damaged their own car???
Im hoping the fact he was seen by PCSOs and he was reported for driving without due care and attention will easily swing it in my favour and it will be sorted within a few weeks(but I really shouldn't have to hope!)
4 years of ownership ends like this.....gutted!

Cheers
John

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the council will definitely claim for the damage to the road furniture, it's just the way it works. One of the reasons I always encourage people to claim if they hit a pothole or debris in the road.

Your insurance company will deal with all that for you, so no added stress for you directly though \:\)

I can confirm that if you swerve to avoid pixies in the road and clip a bit of street furniture, the council do get a bit grumpy, try and charge you £1500 and when challenged say they made a mistake and reduce it to £280

Glad you're ok, hope you get it sorted with the minimum of fuss

Hi all,

well a few weeks on an im a bit more happy, insurance sent a cheque in the post last Friday but Royal Mail being Royal Mail have not delivered it yet........this didn't stop me from paying geoffp a visit on Tuesday and buying his red coupe for sale in the Coupes for sale section (special thanks to geoffp for taking time out at work) \:\)
She's a real beauty and hopefully has alot of life left in her, although she has some mods it looks like I will be starting more or less from the beggining again.

Just a quick thank you to all of you who took time to comment on this one and offered advice!

Cheers
John

I think most people would automatically swerve in the hope that there was no accident, I know I would try my best not to hit a hgv and the thought of just letting it kill my car to save insurance crap wouldn't cross my mind
