My company used to have up to a dozen hire cars on site, and there was a time when at least 3-4 were 20VTs. I think it was Budget at the time and what was happening was that manufacturers were pushing more exotic cars, perhaps to encourage trial. Certainly a nice surprise to get a coupe when you requested a bog standard car.

So there must be at least a handful of ex-hire car Coupes in the UK

This was how the whole coop thing started for me. I didn't have a car at the time and was offered one instead of the bogstandard thing I'd reserved. After that I was hiring them just for the hell of it.
