Hi, i have been reading about all these posts about inlet temps etc which has made the coop paranoia worse smile . I have acquired a temp sensor and digital display, i would like to know where you all put them in the intake to get the best reading (after intercooler). I know nobby has them everywhere, would you be able to tell me the best place and how you did it.

Thanks in advance

Ash

Most useful place has got to be as close to the inlet as you can get it really, then that'll give you the closest approximation of the charge temps entering the engine.

Why don't you just wire into the standard Air Temp Sensor? Why go through all the hassle of adding another sensor when there is one already there.????

oh right where does the ecu take its reading from, i don't fancy going into the ecu wiring as i had alot of trouble with my ecu wiring which i had to replace the whole loom.

Pin 1 on the Airtemp sensor is the siginal wire that goes to pin 54 on the ECU. You can connect into this to get a gauge reading as its just a standard NTC sensor.

It doesn't respond particularly quickly to changes in temperature though and it does tend to suffer pretty badly from heatsoak.

Where abouts is the air temp sensor in the engine, as if its the temp sensor thats built into the afm then that won't give me the reading i want. I would like to know the temp at the throttle body but i just read the instructions and it says not to be placed where theres great suction or pressure. I might jam it between the big 3" pipe and the plastic pipe that runs next to the rocker cover. It will be facing the throttle body and won't get masses of force onto it as its only tiny.

The sensor is located at the back of the inlet where the throttle body is and it should have a brown connector.

Just a note about my sensors:

I was paranoid that one of the sensors might fall off (into the inlet etc..) so i had to come up with a way in which they could be properly mounted to the piping.

I bought some ally hose joiners that were right size to fit inside the SAMCO hoses. I also bought some small hose joiners that are commonly used on oil/fuel lines (the blue anodised ones). I drilled out the centre of the blue joiners and glued the sensors inside them. I then also drilled a hole in each of the bigger joiners and taped a thread inside,so the blue joiners (plus sensor) can screw into them.

Job done. No risk of one falling out and its sealed too.

Thanks Nobby just what i wanted, sounds alot of work though. I was thinking of putting a t piece in the pipe that comes off the big plastic one that runs next to the rocker box. And then gluing the sensor into the t piece. The air will still go up that pipe as it would through the inlet so i am hoping it will give a good reading.

Do you think this sounds a good idea.

Thanks Ash
