Hello all! Finally a bit of good news on the LED rear light front. The lights i have managed to find are THESE They have a normal brake light/indicators etc with LED sidelights. They should fit quite nicely into the 'buckets' into which the normal coupe lights sit with a bit of fettling. I havent discussed discounted prices with the supplier yet until i have a good idea how many people would be interested. Hope thats cleared some stuff up Phill ---Update to the update--- Im still waiting on the exact composition of the lights i.e are the fogs and indicators in the same unit etc. Ill post up info as i get it

Under Phil's supervsion, im helping at looking at various options. After some extensive searching there is a few different options and we are weighing up cost and availability. Im looking down one option (i think the prefered option) and phil is looking at the alternatives Ross

I prefer the configuration where all 4 rings are lit for tail lights, and they all just go brighter for brake lights. Any chance?

We are looking at a different design. The centre section of that LED kit is normal bulbs. Only the sidelights are led's i believe. Im waiting on a price back from suppliers, and also asking for a custom design. Im a fussy bugger and want something special and better than the stnd leds.

i am interested in the red and clear ones in the first post, the otherone (the more common ones) dont look factory enough for me red ones are subtle. Even if there is no revers e or fog i will still be intereted, can always rig something else up for that i am sure Paul R

They're nice and bright and work really well. I bought the red one's. You'll still be left with standard halogen for your indicators though, unless you wire in a resistor to stop the LED bulbs from flashing too fast.

Thanks for the offer dude.
I doubt we will go with the american company, as a custom led lights guy in the uk is prepared to match the design. Once we have a few rough prices, i'll show the design and we can take it from there.

If the finished design is of the 'shinier' variety then we should maybe think about having the 'shinier' bit smoked because it might look a bit saxo-chav-tastic which really isn't good on a coop!

It wont be chav tastic. Dont think neither myself or phil would allow that. There is several options. 1. The normal ones that everyone associates LED lights with. 2. The set that pfoe can supply, which are slightly different from the ones shown, but very nice. 3. A custom made set from a led light specialist, which will be made to our specs. Ross

Right, to clear a few things up.
The version that have been photoshopped do not have fog/reverse lights.
The light with the indicator in only has a reflector around the outside. This leaves one lamp with One ring of LEDS.
They do look rather nice Photoshopped on there however i am still going to pursue my other route as that hardly seems like the best value for money.

Ross LOL I quite liked the "a little better than standard" kind of subtle look which was what I was aiming for The version that have been photoshopped do not have fog/reverse lights I used the ones in your first post to photoshop, I assumed that the red ring could be dual filiment style so you'd have 4 rings always on, which got brighter as you braked, the top 2 clear - indicators, bottom clear - one fog (obviously with a red bulb) and one reverse.

Thats exactly what I'd want to see. Find something like that it would be perfect.

Why aim low?? Personally i think the coupe lights look at tad silly with a reverse on one side and a fog on another. Why not a reverse and fog on each side. Here is the idea im working with. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/h2ypr/rearledidea.jpgRoss

In my drawing its individual LED's. I suppose i could arrange for Rings, with the reverse and fog in a similar design. My laptop is away for repair at the moment, so dont have coral draw. But indicators on top 2, reverse and fog on bottom 2 and 4 ring leds for brake and tail?

TBH, I don't think they'll look right, maybe? I don't see the problem with having only one fog and one reversing light for 3 reasons: - They're hardly going to look silly - How often are they actually on? - Thats what is standard... - Wiring them will be much simpler as thats where standard loom is My other Idea was to supplement my photo shoped Coup with Subaru Legacy Wagon rear lights that come from the boot lid - they would fit where the reflectors in the bumper are (*I think). Alternativly you could get the LED Lad to make up a light like [Fog/Reverse] [R*** TER] [Reverse\Fog] to fit where the reflectors go?

Alternativly you could get the LED Lad to make up a light like [Fog/Reverse] [R*** TER] [Reverse\Fog] to fit where the reflectors go? I've seen this set up before somewhere. Having fogs behind half the portion of the rear reflectors. And then having the symmetry with the reverse lamps on both side, with the normal lights. That said, it seemed a lot of work just to gain symmetry, when occasionally you need your fogs on, or you're reversing....

Well ive just heard from the guy im chasing and we're working towards a solution that hopefully should regain some element of symmetry and still have all of the lights in the existing units.
Must say its sounding very promising

That said, it seemed a lot of work just to gain symmetry, when occasionally you need your fogs on, or you're reversing.... Agreed, So I'd be happy with the photoshop Is your car out of the body shop yet ?

maybe we need to put all the ideas next to each other and create a poll? Feel free to create a poll, though the whole aim of this voyage into the LED light world i set about was to find a set of affordable LED lights for us coop owners, which as yet noone seems to have done. The first set are cheap(ish) and look OE but not without their flaws. The second set look a bit chav but they are all LED, meet all the criteria and are affordable. The third set that im working on seem to tick all the boxes. Not being funny but myself and Ross have put a lot of effort into this for the forum and if anyone can find them cheaper or a set that matches everyones ideals id be suprised.

Nah its cool, its just hard work trying to keep everyone happy with the design!
The current plan is as soon as i get a design (or 2) sorted that i think look great i will post them up and based on price and looks i'll start a poll for which group buy to start.

BB, I think your photoshop was excellent! In fact I'd go further and suggest that any design should be photoshopped so that potential buyers can see what the lights are going to look like when fitted (if it's at all possible?). Seconded, it actually looked real, and if nothing else got me thinking how much i want some new lights

Phil, Looks like good work on your part there matey I Must admit, I went for the Coupedeteile versions, which are similar in that the units are modular & you can swap the centres etc.... One word of caution I would say to the fellow coop owners is that what looks good on one coop may "not" look as good on another, personally, the all clear type suit the silver / darker models, whereas the red inserts suit well....some other colour ! ( hell, as If I know about fashion ! ) may be worth showing some others when you get them fitted to your car what they may look like on another coop ( this is a point where another forum member who is good at photoshop HELPS YOU ) for the record, here is my coop with the clear rear jobbies & this is NOT to detract from YOUR sterling efforts http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e238/Tazcannibal/closeupLED.jpghttp://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e238/Tazcannibal/newLEDrearBLANK.jpghttp://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e238/Tazcannibal/lightsonLEDBLANK.jpgbest regards Taz

Hi Taz, I've seen pictures of your car before- very nice it is too! They're pretty much what i was looking to fit to my coupe. Mine's black with silver detail around the lights, so i think it would work well, but like you say, may not suit other colours- will be hard (impossible? )to find one set that suit all colours! Keep up the good work though guys..

I think that would look really quite excellent with the brake lights working on all 4 rears top and bottom. Bear in mind though that the fogs are supposed to be brighter than the sidelights so you'd have to spec much brighter/higher spec LED's for those. Especially seeing as you'll be using less of them in comparison. Its a pity that non of the suppliers are currently using the newer SMT LED's as they are brighter and also much easier to put into any kind of pattern/configuration you like.

Hello h2ypr, i really liked your idea for those lights and if it works out and there £100-150 i would have a set, although i dont mind the 1s that have been shown with the clear or silver look, last one shown on the green coop, but i think the idea your going with would be very different.

Ah so you need to buy the cups aswell? As iv said before on this subject when I had my coop with these lights fitted, you dont need cups. The black coop in this link hasn't got cups. All you need is a plastic ring behind the light pod/seat. And the best thing about this is that they sit more flush in the pod than with cups. Heres mine

Grazie Mille. But back on topic, the rear lights are from Coupeteile, and are a perfect fit. My only bug with these, applies to the standard lights. Only one reverse, and one fog. But it's not a big issue.

Yup. A choice of an Alloy cup, or plastic. I went for the recommended alloy one. Fittment was a doddle, and the finish is lovely. The chap at Coupeteile , is easy to contact. He has good English, so if you have any questions he can answer them.

Doubtful to be honest...
Basically i've been talkin to Phil about this again and we are weighin up our options.
1. The normal coupetetetetetetlleltet ones that circolo has. 2. The ones that flatuvigitnthtjfjf is selling and we are waiting on feedback from cowboy. 3. There *may* be another option, but its unlikely at this stage.

I haven't read the whole thread about this but my friend here had a LED conversion done on his Puma some time ago. It works out to be quite a bit cheaper also. Running lights are changed with LEDs (custom work - car specific) on the inner piece of the unit and for brake lights it currently is OEM bulb but can be replaced with aftermarket LED bulb. Looks like this CLICK This can be done on a coupe quite easily.

Shhhh! Lol!
Right, since its been a while ill give you a quick update.
About a week ago... :
I dismantled one of my rear lights (its not easy to do)
Dremeled out the insides of it (again, its an absolute arse to do)
About a week ago -1 day...:
Smoothed out the inside of the lights ready for a PCB
About a week ago -2 days:
Reworked the PCB design to take into account the correct size of the lights.
Then...
Left it for a while as i was away with work.
Today...:
Sourced a clear perspex cover to go over the lights,
Painted the inside of the light cups,
Tonight:
Cutting the first correct sized, reworked and printed PCB.
More to follow,
Phill

Nope, it wouldnt be viable anyway since you have to hacksaw the exisitng light shroud off so it would look poop.
Plus the inside of the light isnt a particulary attractive thing in itself.
