Thread number 2. This is for the Tipo but I will also get some for the Coupe while I'm at it.

I have wanted to get some type of stainless/polished wheels nuts and as I am now doing the restoring the Tipo it has reminded me.

I have seen a link to a few sights before but to be honest do not understand the sizes etc. Does anyone know where a good place to get some is and what type fit what?

Oooh I smell a Group Buy. I am getting my wheels refurbed and would be a shame to put rusty nuts back on

I just payed 30 plus quid for some new main dealer ones and although they arent rusty they arent exactley shiny. I would look elce where for some nice nuts =)

I’m not sure stainless steel bolts are a good idea. The existing bolts are (I believe) zinc galvanised steel. If you switch to stainless steel, the bolts will be galvanically incompatible with the steel wheel hub.

So instead of the bolts corroding the hub will. I don’t think stainless steel is fantastic in contact with aluminium either resulting in corrosion the alloy wheels.

Note sure as I’m not an automotive engineer, but I would not be allowed to allow these materials to come into direct contact in aero structure without a barrier.

To be honest you may be right, I don't particularly know, it could be made of anything as long as its not rusty

IIRC the other reason not to use stainless is if/when some numpty tyre fitter over-tightens your wheel bolts it will damage the hub thread rather than the bolt (bolt being the harder material), resulting in new hubs each time rather than a new bolt

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the bolts were specifically made of a softer material for this reason....

can be quite a difference in hardness, cold welding (galling) can also be a problem with stainless steel

What are the type to be used?

Fiat have pretty much got it spot on with zinc galvanised steel.

I would avoid any chrome finishes as well.

Anodised aluminium may be an option
