i have had the sip installed to my coop now for a while and im getting some stalling every now and again.

i was wondering does the air flow meter have to be as close to its original angle as possible?

I believe it does, also think down to how far away from turbo aslo.

Did you sort your boost issue? Actuator?

i get some stalling etc from time to time too, can you elaborate on what you mean by angle? angle to the filter at the end of the SIP or do you mean at exactly inline with the pipework?

when you say stalling do you mean the revs drop really low when coming to a stop and some times stall, as mine does this since ive had the sip and i dont know how to stop it.

As far as I could make out from previous posts, it's got to replicate as best as possible the original angle the AFM is at before the SIP, FMIC etc is fitted.

It's not only the horizonatal angle it's at, but also the angle the electrical connectors come out of the AFM too.

AFM is too close to your turbo move it further away to slove your problems.

Realistcaly it wants to be under the chascie leg at the same angle as it was before

I've had no problems with stalling since runing one

Do you know why that is? It's just a sensor. As a techy this is like saying standing your PC on it's side will stop it booting - madness! Owl was saying in anther thread that the angle is paramount.

I cant see why the angle of the actual AFM will make so much difference? surely no matter what angle it is fitted at the angle of the air hitting the sensor and direction of the airflow is going to be the same?

I think it is that the afm is to close to the turbo and with no bends, the air shuffles back over the afm in the wrong direction. I think some how the afm needs to be indirect to the turbo with some bends some where.

Bends don't affect the AFM its just too near the turbo the AFM don't like being close to the turbo. To close will also cause the car to run rich and often stall.

Probably just need decent near-laminar flow, too close to the turbo would be a bit turbulent (sorry for the punn )

Laminar flow would be the air travelling parallel to the pipe

When air comes out of a fan it is really choppy and turbulent but it gets more laminar with distance from the fan.

We use a wind tunnel at my work that is set up for smooth laminar flow (nothing exciting like car development, we study moth flight behaviour ).

i cant see how i can turn it to accomadate the plug etc as space seems tight where ive mounted it.

doesent help that ive overflled it with oil and its probably covered in it.

With the AFM mounted in direct line of sight to the turbo it can suffer from backwash from the turbo, I had this and it caused some frustrating symptoms: cutting out, jerking, hesitation.
The solution was to mount the AFM on a 45' angle from the SIP so its pointing back up inside the inner wing, I just used a bit of samco 45' pipe to do it and I've not had any trouble since

Probably only worth doing if your suffering with those symptoms and it only seems to be the superspool fitted cars that get it ?

Jamie, I've tried to get a picture of the pipe before but its too hidden away to get an effective picture of how it looks.

Its very simple though, from the turbo to the SIP then to the 45' hose, AFM, a short section of straight hose then the air filter.
The filter sits slightly higher inside the front behind the bumper so its out of the way of all the water and spray off the road.

Jimbo, I had a look at mine but the SIP isnt long enough for a 45 degree bend to clear the chassis leg I have already put the hump hoses as far apart as possible if you know what I mean!

Looks like I will need a short ~5" extension on the end of the SIP before the 45 degree bend

Or bin the hump hose for a longer length of pipe ? It is a tight fit and thats why its hard to get any pictures but it does seem to work.

Can't remember where the info came from now, think it was the twohundy guys that had the same problem, on light throttle when you lift off the air was going back the wrong way through the AFM causing all sorts of problems, just moving the AFM so its out of direct sight of the turbo helps.

Im having all sorts of problems comming on and off throttle. Even more so since i changed the angle of the afm slightly. I think im gonna try this.

Is your throttle really jumpy of and on acceleration H2ypr? Also of topic did you hear any more about the apexi filter?
